One of my favorite shows is the Golden Girls, of course, right!! But I was thinking about the theory of the show....

A widow needing roomates to keep her home, one womans husband leaves her after 38 years of marriage and can't live on her own and even has her mother to take care of still, and another woman that is widowed and can't afford to live alone.

They all end up roomates to survive and live together to make ends meet.

You have to wonder in this economy will this how any of us end up in the future? Sharing a home just to survive and etc?

And on a funny note, if so which Golden Girl would you be?

The economy goes round and round. Up and down. Peaks and troughs. VERY natural. We are just at a trough. It's all a cycle.

I thought Blance was looking for house mate because she became lonely when Charlie died? OMG, Rose's first St Olaf story was hilarious [the herring parade] LOL!

Anyway, my friends say that I am the Dorothy of the group.

Nawh...you're not dumb like her to fit the role.

You should be Blanch...the slutty one. Now that fits. icon_twisted.gificon_twisted.gif

I will be Sophia. I like calling my bitch "Pussycat and love being street smart and sassy. And speaking with a Brooklyn/East coast accent gets me all wet.

You speak with something.. we just aren't sure what it is.... LOL LOL

Some of us will, some of us won't. The important thing is that as many of us survive as possible. Because the one thing with which the Golden Girls did not have to contend was active hostility from Christian Fundamentalists and Republicans.

Your question is based solely on economics and widowhood. The challenges for most elderly gay men go beyond that. So while some of us may end up living like the Golden Girls, it may be for totally different reasons. And therefore the remedies, and strategies to avoid it in the first place, will likewise be totally different.

As for which GG I am, I suppose Blanche -- a slut at heart but way past his prime.

Apparently, The Golden Girls is what made some of you gay.

At first I thought perhaps the linked article and the whole site was satirical. But I guess it's for real.

I wondered myself. It was one of the most stupid things I have ever read, masquerading as legitimate commentary.

"Rose Nylund, played by x-rated comedienne Betty White..." was about where I drew the line. X-rated comedienne Betty White??? What, you have some porno tapes of her, or some raunchy stand-up comedy routines she did? X-rated??? Betty White? Really?

I'm old enough to remember her on the US TV game show Password, hosted by her future husband, Allen Luden. You didn't get onto TV game shows over 40 years ago if you were X-rated.

Nor would you have been on the Mary Tyler Moore Show beginning in the early 1970s, Betty White's most famous role before Golden Girls. Maybe I just fell into an alternate Universe. Can anyone please explain & interpret that link? Maybe a staunch Republican here?

Me, too. But if you consider the right-wing audience for which it's intended, being barely literate is an absolute advantage.

Sharing a home in the golden years with family or friends is very common here and all over the world. I would welcome it.

I'm a little of all of them. Blanche and I both carry around a ring of keys to many a man's house and when we walk in, THAT'S when the party starts. I'm bossy and practical like Dorothy. I'm as dumb as Rose and frequently don't know what the hell is going on. And Sophia and I can cut through bullshit in a second since we're both Sicilian.
