YOU'RE NOT THAT IMPORTANT!.. and it's downright rude. icon_evil.gif

There are a lot of reasons to make fun of brotards who make a lot of noise on purpose, but often you have to drop dumbbell and if someone is upset because their conversation was interrupted by someone working out....

We have a guy at our gym who drops the handles on the chest press machines and the plates actually fly off sometimes. He's awful.

How do you propose you put down 90lb dumbells after doing a chest press set? you know, without fucking your rotator cuff...

And sister-friend, it's 2010; get over your technology issues. Luddites are so last year. My iPhone has this awesome little app called gymBuddy and I can track my workouts, weights, reps, etc on there... so no, i'm not leaving my phone in the locker. AND if i feel like taking a call, or texting someone, I'm going to, because you should be minding your own business.

gyms should ban any cellphone, no need for phone calls and text messaging in between working out. Everyone can put their wubbies down and survive without them for 60-90 minutes just like before 1998

I think the OP is referring to people that toss/dump the weights. You don't have to baby the weights because yes, you can hurt yourself. However, that doesn't mean you should throw them like hot potatoes. Below are a couple of examples of how to safely dismount the weights. Spread the word! icon_smile.gif

All I can say is 3 things to contribute

    1) If you're gonna have a five minute conversation, let someone else use the equipment you're taking a break from in the meantime.

    2) Walking around naked in the locker room is gross (this one's personal preference. I have seen -way- too many old man penises)

    3) Respect the equipment that you use.

I agree with the things you guys mentioned but I just had a really rude response to my gym etiquette this afternoon.

I was alternating between 2 machines then right before my last set this guy came over trying to take off the bar I set for my ab exercise, I was like "hey I just got one more set" he said "you can't use both machines at the same time" I was like what the!? then I repeated he said "go over use that one" then I repeated again he was like "oh you are done with that machine?" then he left. So obviously he wasn't happy about the way I was taking over the machines and I probably shouldn't have, but to act like a fucking gym police going around telling people what machines they can use, are you kidding me? If you got a problem let me know earlier in a nice way... I thought about complaining to the staff but since this is the first it's happened to me I let it pass. People can be so fucking rude geez!

    First item, agree
    Second item, agree
Third item, what's the problem with the phones?

    .

As far as ditching 90+ pound dumbells on bench incline or straight, try bringing em onto your chest then pushing em up on end onto your upper thigh/pelvis. Then you can sit up and lower em one at a time without dropping em. On incline its easier to get em to your thighs to stand up.
But ditching em from the classic bench poition is asking for a rotator cuff issue even if you drop em.

Now what gets me people who litter the equipment with the weights they used and dont bother to rack em or put em back where they got em. Their workout time is more important than anyone elses?
Well hope that helps anyone who is open to some advice, and thanks for the rant

I agree as long as one is not holding up equipment for an inordinate amount of time. People who sit on the equipment and yak on the phone are rude and deserve being interrupted and asked to relinquish the equipment.

Sometimes weights get dropped. There's not a lot you can do about it.

What IS rude, though, is not putting your weights away, putting the weights back in the wrong places, not wiping off your bench, sitting on a bench, walking in front of someone, and not putting your trash in the trash can. Other stupid shit is blow drying your balls and standing around chatting.

Is it really so hard to behave properly? Apparently, it is, because so many folks in gyms are clueless.

This makes me envision a bank of lockers with ringtones muffled behind padlocked doors. Performance art?

People doing their exercises directly in front of the dumbbell rack are annoying.

if they're on the phone, yes it's annoying as hell..but don't jump to conclusions about the phone being in their hand.

I use the app "gym buddy" on my iphone to log my workouts. It's my notebook and pen but even less cumbersome.

some of you guys need to stop being bitches and suck it up already, You are grown men and are completely responsible for your own behavior. Don't blame others about how you feel.

yes I have rage too but that doesn't mean I have to take it down immaturely.

    * People working-out WHILE talking on their cellphone is pretty darn stupid!! What true results are they aiming for?
    * Inconsiderate assholes working-out too close to the free-weight rack.
    * Guys dropping their weights or letting the cables go as the machine weights slam down. And the person working-out is not even big.
    * Chatty guys talking up a storm while holding-up weights, a work-out bench, or machine.
    * Gym members who work-out in trios or quartets, clearly unaware how ineffectual this sort of working out actually is.
    * The needy girlfriend who just sits around, doing nothing, waiting for her man to finish pumping iron onto his scrawny "physique."
    * Not replacing weights back on their racks, instead they're left lying around.
    * Narcissists ALWAYS checking themselves out in the mirror. Douchebags!

This is why I work out at 3am. The only real problem I have is that every weight is stacked on the machines which I usually set on the floor when I have to use it. I don't rerack my weights because they were already there.

The only other problem is not tripping on the janitors vacuum cleaner cord.
