    Actually, it is not unlike New York City. In Belo Horizonte these programs aid around 40% of the population. In NYC, around 40% of residents receive food assistance via USDA programs.

    The farm direct market concept is also not unique to some degree. Granted, NYC residnets do not have farmer operated markets, but wander out into the hinterlands of America and the concept is pervasive.
