This is ridiculous. They should not need to apologize. That's like me apologizing for voting republican. Life is not black and white, you can't always get everything you want with a candidate or a political party.

Emmer is demonstrably anti-gay rights. I have a right to be upset that a (usually) good corporate citizen like Target would turn around and give some of the money I spend there to a man like Tom Emmer. He's a fundamentalist "Christian," too... and you know what that means as well as I do.

Thank God I still have the right to express my dissatisfaction with this situation; it seems some would rather I didn't.

But if he's the only republican candidate what are they supposed to do? Just keep watching the economy collapse and businesses suffer? At least he doesn't seem in favor of undermining existing rights, only preventing the passage of new ones. Some times you have to look at the greater good, not just one issue.

The passage or lack of passage of gay marriage in minnesota will not be because of a democrat or republican but probably a court ruling.

it's not like voting republican or supporting someone who is not a liberal -- the guy they gave money to is anti-gay. as in anti-gay marriage, anti-gay employment non-discrimination, anti-gays being treated like human f-ing beings.

and gays should be pissed that their money has gone to such a person. hell, the targets around me are like gay bars without the music sometimes. when you think of all the 'gay dollars' that have gone to target then for target to give $150K to a gay-hating pol, it's a insult. their apology is Ok but they should follow up by donating twice that much to gay organizations on Minnesota, and vowing to take part in glbt job fairs, etc.

Heres how it works Mock, he is a business owner, and his actions have cost him business. If he wants the business back he will make it back, but he wont be getting MY business back no matter what, I will not spend money in a store simply to have the funds go back into denying me rights as a citizen.

Critical thinking is not your best skill I see.

Clearly the Marketing and Philanthropy areas at Target and Best Buy did not do their homework when these donations were made. Companies should be a little more careful and do their homework in this endeavor to stay clear of PACs and companies with questionable ties.

Maybe giving to a more mainstream non profit organization would have been the better choice. Ten years ago, I was associated with the premier banking institution in Florida that routinely gave to children's charites in order to stay clear of something more "niched" or controversial.

And mocktwinkie, you don't get everything you want with a candidate or a political party, however, you get much less by voting Republican.

The only reason he apologized is because his employees were offended and the customers were talking of boycotting Target. He didn't NEED to apologize, unless of course he wants to stay in business.

Emmer is against gay marriage. Obama is against gay marriage. Emmer will not raise taxes in Minnesota (already way high).

Wait a second. Target gave money to MN Forward. MN Forward gave the money to Emmer. Target did not give money to Emmer. I don't see ANYWHERE that says that Target knew that the organization was going to support Emmer.

Like most Republicans you're ignorant of the actual facts.
The economy is GROWING again and is in a (slow) recovery.

We watched the economy "collapse" during the BUSH administration.
Going back to the same failed Republican economic policies that wrecked the economy is NUTS.

    GOPers=the Republican's doormats

In other words, once they show their true colors (which won't be long) we'll find out that the REAL reason they're doing all this is so they won't have to pay additional benefits to married gay couple on top of the married couples they already pay benefits for.
Greedy corporations annoy the fuck out of me.

Until about 10 years ago, Target actually had signs and literature up during Pride Week, and had people in the parade. They haven't done that since, as HR feels that it may "offend" some people, but they acknowledge and celebrate everything else.

hard decision: troll or just dumb? I think the continued mentions of voting republican point to troll (whereas continually doing it, without mentioning it every post, would just point to dumb)

QUOTE TurtleNeckJockAnd mocktwinkie, you don't get everything you want with a candidate or a political party, however, you get much less by voting Republican.

Okay, so let’s see, with democrats I get no gay marriage and progressively higher taxes through multiple big government entitlement/subsidization/welfare programs which will continue to drain this nation in the name of "equality" and take us further into debt until eventually the entire economy collapses. With republicans I get no gay marriage and I do get some hostility with certain personal "morality" freedoms which is contrary to what they are SUPPOSED to stand for according to the principles of liberty, but at least I get the prospect that they will try to tackle the deficit for the overall longevity of America as a nation, LOWER my taxes, promote more free market laissez faire economics and crack down on third world immigration which is utterly fleecing the middle class of this country.

The biggest issues for me are TAXES and IMMIGRATION so how can you possibly expect for democrats to fulfill my needs when every single solitary thing they stand for, except for the idea of equal rights is opposed to freedom in general and is geared toward unbridled government control until eventually they are rationing what we can eat and drink all in the name of preserving the social well being and "good" of all. How about some personal responsibility and leave everyone up to their own fate? We aren’t going to solve the world’s problems, millions of people are going to be dying in a couple decades because the earth’s resources can’t support them and you think that getting everyone on some universal healthcare program that will end up collapsing a few years later because it cannot be sustained is worth it? Give me a break.

Anyone who values freedom will NOT vote democrat despite the many evils inherent in the republican party. Because they are still closer to libertarian principles which is TRUE liberalism. Modern day so called "progressive liberals" do not believe in liberty, and they are simply not truly a "liberal". I am a classical liberal.
