Yeah, finally went to the most popular gay bar in town...and not one single person was even remotely into fitness or halfway in shape. A few cute guys, but I could count them on one hand...not to mention they were the ones I was hanging out with. But still, I had to change the subject from fitness to some other boring shit because I went over their head by saying "dumbbell."

Oh well, may have just been a bad night, but definitely not a good first impression of that town.

Lol it's more of an artists town, SCAD is there, I had a few friends go there for college when I lived in Florida during high school. Doubt many of them care about fitness, suffering is their art. lol

That's not true either. Every single person I met (met 8 people total - 10 including bartender and barback) were from different states or countries. icon_lol.gif

If you had gay bars like this one, you'd be better off staying at home anyway. icon_lol.gif
Ok it wasn't that bad...I'm just picky.
But yeah I grew up in an area with no gay bars. That fucking sucks. But really though, if you just visit or live in a very gay friendly area, that's more fun (to me) than having to go to a gay bar to meet other gays.

In fact, that's why I hardly ever go to gay bars anymore anyway...the bars within walking distance have a gay friendly and mixed crowd. It's just as flirty and fun, too. icon_wink.gif

I could have told you that. Savannah's popular gay bar was not that much fun.

And keep in mind that Savannah is the home of Paula Deen's The Lady and Sons restaurant. So fitness probably isn't high on the list.

True. Lots of bars and lots of attractive guys in New Orleans. But among the locals fitness ranks way down on the priority scale after eating and above all, drinking. So even though chiseled abs are pretty scarce you can still expect a fun time.

    OK Paul....

Savannah is the polar opposite from SoBe. It's not about the bars, the beach, the men....Savannah is more about southern culture, the great food and it will be more "artsy fartsy" than what you are used to.

Before coming to Orlando years ago, I lived in Georgia and the state has changed...a lot. It's not predominantely the Confederate flag waving state you might think it still is. Around Orlando, I will see out of staters from very sparsely populated Georgia counties driving very expensive cars. That was not the case 30 years ago. It's changed. It's different.

Some of the best cuisine I have had (and I'm a serious foodie here, guys) was in Coastal Georgia from Savannah down to the Brunswick/Jekyll island/ St. Simons Island area. The best shrimp you have ever had comes from that area---I ate a lot of it when I was in Jekyll Island and loved it.

I know Miami residents refer to Orlando as "Hooterville," and for the most part, you are correct. Just remember, not everybody is gonna be into the same things you are at home.

Just because the gay bars in Savannah are lousy doesn't mean that the city and its surrounding region are lousy. There is much more to a city or any community than the gay bars or any bars for that matter. You need to diversify your interests and give Savannah a second chance.

I first went to Savannah in 1974. It was totally red-neck, pretending to be upper class. You can have money, but your class is how you act. A city of trash, I've never returned, nor will.

It is extremely right-wing, fundamentalist Christian. I wouldn't even attempt to find gay community there. There are too many better alternatives. Don't waste your time, Paul. Savannah is a write-off.
