Are We Being Infiltrated By Anti-Gay Elements On This Site?

I think so. I note some new members, whose first posts are anit-gay, pro-Republican diatribes.

Not hello, not let me tell you about myself, but who immediately launch into an anti-gay speech. With their first post on a gay fitness site?

Now what is that about? And existing members like southbeach1500 promptly endorse them? What's going on here?

I have read that right-wingers have targeted gay web sites for attack. I suspect we are one of them. Not a lot we as members can do, except to promptly identify them and block them.

When a person joins this site, and their very first post is an anti-gay rant, I think we need to go DUH! Right? And when someone like southbeach1500 immediately endorses him, do we not know who is the viper among us, and one of those those bringing those people here? I think that is obvious.

So let's wake up, and be aware this site is being attacked, and who is behind it.

Wilton, quite awhile back there were very anti-gay people posting on the site. In fact, one group was well organized, had their own website, and played mole games with members here. Then that attack started in earnest with gigantic distorted pics of female genitalia being spammed all over the site. It took at least 2 days for admin to delete them all.

As for guys that endorse that kind of person; they do so because something the anti-gay person posted backs up their own posts/topics.

I'm usually pretty naive about noticing things like that. I wouldn't catch something like that unless it was pointed out to me. You may be correct. And, I'm aware that radical conservatives are intentionally infiltrating more liberal sites with the express purpose of shutting them down.

When I see somebody parroting all the exact same idiotic Teabagger Republican talking points, which aren't opinion but blatant propaganda, I should realize that something is up.

Here's the problem I see with blocking the fucktards.

If intelligent, reasonable, open minded RJ members block the fucktards, there will be fewer and fewer members who will stand up to them, challenge their lies, and post the actual truth.

Then, eventually, the liberal guys who get sick of seeing the forums spammed with knee jerk radical Republican talking points, will choose to stay away. And, then, the fucktards have won. They have chased the liberal members away from RJ, and the site will die from lack of interest.

So, I feel that it is more important (if you enjoy this site, and want it to continue to exist) to stay and fight. As in almost all situations, the truth will win out.

I see your point. But actually, despite my reputation as one of the most vocally liberal guys here, the truth is I'd rather not be distracted by politics. I'd much prefer to post about bicycling, or cars & motorcycles, and personal issues, and all kinds of things except politics. Funny, huh? But I'm mostly reactive when it comes to politics, not proactive at all. I lack the evangelist gene for politics.

I always defer to your wisdom. So do you think something like that is happening now? I thought I was seeing a pattern, but perhaps I'm mistaken.

You guys always have the answer. I merely see some trends, that make me suspicious. Perhaps it's the cop in me. icon_question.gif

I guess I'm pretty thick-skinned because they really don't bother me. I enjoy fucking with them.

But it wouldn't hurt my feelings if this site developed a more stringent verification process for new members, like "requiring" verification to even sign up. That does not mean the members would have to keep their pics public, but they would be required to show they're real before their account is activated. That would take some volunteer mods to check newbs, but I'm pretty sure there are plenty of members in good standing who'd be willing to take on that responsibility.

Oh and one other thing that could be implemented easily: Stop allowing name changes. Have it set where people have to go through the admin to make a name change.

Yeah, I don't get it either. This is the only forum/website I've seen that allows instant name changes.

Maybe I should be more thick-skinned myself. I just hate the disruption these newbies cause, when their very first post is a right-wing political diatribe. I mean, why do that, when you just joined a gay fitness site? This is what confuses me.

BTW, Paul, let no one here doubt you. My partner & I having met you in person for dinner, you are exactly who you say, and exactly as your RJ pics show. Nice to confirm that some guys here are real. And actually, it's the same with all the guys from RJ we've met. One of the things I love about RJ -- the guys are real.

Well, I confess to doing that myself. Though I did announce it, when I changed from Red_Vespa. Nothing underhanded, and I explained my reasons. But I've been on other sites that permitted unlimited SN changes, so I don't know if RJ is so unique in that regard.

I guess that's why it's so easy for me to overlook the trolls...I look at the positive side of things, like the enormous amount of good, real people here.

I still think requiring account verification would be the most effective option, though. It won't solve the problem, but it would keep it to a minimum. I'd even volunteer to be a "gatekeeper." icon_wink.gif

LOL! I can't believe I didn't see this thread before.

I just happened to stumble across this website and noticed that there were a few gay conservatives like me and I was pleasantly surprised because I don't really find many of those. The main reason I joined the place, however, was because I'm very much into health and nutrition and this place seems geared for that.

There's a big difference between tolerance and self defense.
When the gay haters come onto our site and post anti-gay messages, defending ourselves is not a display of intolerance...it's a display of self defense. Tolerating abusive anti-gay people would cause what few rights we have to be taken away....and that would be counterproductive.

I was meaning tolerance inasmuch as it does not sabotage/injure the property rights of whoever created this website. I guess it's going to be up to the discretion of the administrator/moderators.

I just didn't like that he equates being a republican as automatically being anti-gay or needing censorship.

Speaking of which, I keep wondering if Chris (Realjock) is the only one in charge, or if he has others monitoring his account and helping. This site has definitely grown allot since I've been here. And in the time I've been on the forums (~7 months) I've seen some growth as well. It may well need a small amount of moderation to take care of the "serious" troll groups who join just to create havoc. They are becoming more frequent.

I frequently see new profiles pop up, here and elsewhere, just to post a few political or religious messages (invariably crazy ones). I suppose some people make a habit of it. And it seems inevitable that the political parties must sponsor rooms full of people to do this.
For example, recent "it's stupid to vote" posts smell like a campaign message that thinks it's being subtle.

NOM has been caught doing just that. RJ, listing over 300,000 gay members, would be an ideal target. Surprising if it WASN'T targeted.

And we see this every US election cycle, year after year. southbeach goes into high gear, telling us multiple times daily that Obama & Democrats are responsible for all the ills of mankind. Not my empty claim, you can all see it for yourselves. Clogging up the forums with his nutty, false & misleading propaganda.

And now he's revived his previous persecution of yours truly. Dragging up old threads that are 4 or more years old, taken out of context, using childish photos from a British TV sitcom.

You can judge for yourselves what kind of an individual this is. We do get some wackos here. And it all started because I disagree with him politically, which is a mortal sin in Right Wing Land. icon_rolleyes.gif

I do think creating a new profile here should be more stringent, and not instantaneous. Every othery day a new profile pops up. I think the creators of this website didn't have in their mind that someone would be so jobless that they would be creating new profiles every other day. But there does exist such people.
Sign Up should should take at least 24 hours, and Realjock should use, may be, phone number apart from email-id as verification. People can fake multiple email-ids, but phone number wouldn't be that easy, may be twice or thrice. Before banning someone, two warnings should be given, and then finally they should be banned for minimum of 1 or 2 months. In the meantime, their verification data should be kept in the database so that they wouldn't be able to join the website during the banned period.

You have to look past purely political bents to figure out the true gremlins.

There are 4chan-style Internet Jocks who could not care one whit about expressing their own political or social views; they're in this purely for the joy of engendering anger and anarchy. The true goal is to disrupt forum discussion and comment sections to the point no one dares use them to engage in constructive conversation, lest they risk feeling harmed in some way. They're as happy stirring sh*t on RJ and BGCLive forums as they are on Stormfront and World Nut Daily.

They'll play the jerk chauvinist on a women's site, the Yankee fan in the Red Sox forum, the evangelical pretending to try and save souls in the atheist group, the bleeding-hearted liberal on the Ayn Rand fansite, the guy with no pics who brags he can outlift anybody on Bodybuilding.com. All the same people. All at the same time.

They set up sockpuppets designed to dittohead and agree wholeheartedly, and sockpuppets designed to argue with them so they can "win" their own arguments. They figure out who the most annoying members are, what the most annoying posts are, and recreate them using new aliases. They try to target and run off popular members to scare off others.

It's not about their true opinions. Never has been. Being incendiary and manipulative and creating chaos is the name of the Internet game. They could not possibly care less about ever getting you to agree with them. The challenge for them, is this: armed with just keystrokes and picture/video posts, can they get under enough people's skin to render somebody else's website dysfunctional?

Their sole Kryptonite is getting ignored. These folks put a LOT of time, energy, and mental machination into their crap-throwing (often, in coordination with one another offsite) and would like to receive SOME appreciable measure of engagement for their considerable effort, thank you very much!

When that doesn't happen, they go back to their cave, tweak their approaches, and try again. And again. Perhaps under two, or twenty aliases. Until they realize one day no one is willing to play their reindeer games, and they saunter off in search of someplace with posters of thinner skin. Wasted time is the sole disinfectant for the Online Anarchists.
