Leg workouts & Running

I run between 18 - 24 miles a week. Recently, I have been neglecting my leg workouts at the gym because of my runs. I have two questions:
    a) Can I skip my leg workout with weights altogether if I'm running a lot?
    b) It seems that I should still do some type of workout in the gym - so, what's better: should I run the day before or after I work my legs?

This is kinda tricky. For me, if I put too much emphasis on leg workouts in the gym, then my running suffers. And vice versa. I guess it all depends on your fitness/body goals. But to answer your questions:

    a) I like to think that runners should implement some type of leg workout in the gym. It adds a little variety to your overall fitness routine, and weight training will help strengthen up the ligaments/tendons.

    b) I run the day before a leg workout. I also run the day after, but usually shorter distance. You have to experiment and see what works best for you.

I agree with xrichx. I went into PT last year with knee pain. They asked me about my leg workout routine and when I said that I didn't have one since I was running & biking all the time they just looked at me and told me that I should have one. I also recommend that all runners do some yoga regularly.

I usually run when i do upper body workouts, 4 miles per session. On the day of leg workout i just spin bike for 10-15 minutes and the next 1 or 2 days i give them a rest.
