Hehe... they just don't take stuff too seriously so to speak...
and that brings out the best in people sometimes...
Example: they say I'm twisted-funny, but for the most part I'm not even joking

A friend of ours is British, and he has a shop with British goods he sells here in Florida. We dropped by there the other day. And I joked with him, "You do know, the British Isles are one big floating insane asylum?"

Being British, and a gentleman, of course he took it well and laughed with me. And I think he agreed with me a little. The Brits are of course all nuts. And the nicest, most civilized people on Earth.

Perhaps some day soon, when my own country officially rejects me for being gay, as southbeach1500 and others here seek, I will either look to Canada, or Great Britain. Or perhaps Australia, which is kinda right-wing lately, but still nicer than the maniacal jerk-offs trying to take over the US.

It is certainly true---and alas this is so to a decreasing extent---that the British are more tolerant of eccentricity than many other nations incl. the US.

You explain it perfectly. The Brits tolerate eccentricity. Whereas Americans demand conformity. Therein lies our difference. And why one will endure, and the other fail. I'll bet you can guess which is which.

I'd be willing to bet most Brits enjoy eccentricity rather than just tolerate it. I'm not even Brit and I enjoy it. icon_wink.gif

I stand corrected when I said the Brits tolerate eccentricity. It's more that they enjoy it, as you say. Why one civilization will survive, and the other fail. The US has become a land of intolerance, bigotry, prejudice & oppression. We won't long survive. Too bad, because we once had a lot of potential.

Agreed! America is far more repressed and repressive than the UK!
