C'mon guys. He's not everyone's cup of tea. But he has every right to be as out there as he likes. It's America after all. Furthermore, while he's in no way representative of the sum total of gay people or society,
he is visible. Clearly a little unhinged, but nonetheless unafraid. Forcing the larger straight culture to examine/question ideas about sexuality, gender and more.

He doesn't scare me - I'm not threatened by him or his gender-coded expressions. A straight or gay man feeling threatened by his less than linear masculine/feminine demeanor should ask himself why he's threatened by this.

As I like to tell straight men who express fear of homosexuality or gay men afraid of male femininity - you can't be hurt by the gay or the femme. Only by a fist in the face.

I don't find what he does attractive or incredibly entertaining, but I find responses like most of the negative ones above me (and all over Youtube) 100x more disturbing than Chris' little show.

Either choose your words more carefully or get a grip... it's pretty sad when comments from a gay community are almost as hateful as the ones the general public posts on youtube.

EDIT: Thank you run.. I really have to agree.

Because they usually have crap lives without any kind of love, friendship or understanding. People are odd birds and the hyper-connected culture in which we live has caused many damaged people to seek substitutes for the genuine connections needed to live a full, healthy life.

Madonna - Drowned World / Substitute For Love Lyrics

I traded fame for love
Without a second thought
It all became a silly a game
Some things cannot be bought

I got exactly what I asked for
Wanted it so badly
Running, rushing back for more
I suffered fools so gladly

And now I find
I've changed my mind

Chorus:

The face of you
My substitute for love
My substitute for love
Should I wait for you
My substitute for love
My substitute for love

I traveled round the world
Looking for a home
I found myself in crowded rooms
Feeling so alone

I had so many lovers
Who settled for the thrill
Of basking in my spotlight
I never felt so happy

(chorus)

Mmmmm, ooohhh, mmmmm
Famous faces, far off places
Trinkets I can buy
No handsome stranger, heady danger
Drug that I can try
No ferris wheel, no heart to steal
No laughter in the dark
No one-night stand, no far-off land
No fire that I can spark
Mmmmm, mmmmm

(chorus)

Now I find I've changed my mind
This is my religion

I'm sorry, but Madonna slept with anyone who could help her progress up the fame ladder. And then wrote a song about the people basking in her fame. Hmm.
Chris is very disgusting (turn off). He don't represent gay people...
I think you are disgusting for ... having a finger nail.

Chris Crocker is an entertainer wether you like it or not, he has never stated in any of his videos that he is a spokesperson for the entire gay population on this planet.

And why are you making clear that he is a turn off for you? I know he is trying to do all sexy in the video but he is entertaining, he reanacts the video's of the stars these days.

This is obviously a spoof of the britney spears' piece of me, and some people see this as a promotion video for homosexuals around the globe, meanwhile trying to turn people on? Wake up and smell the ignorance, in other words get.over.yourselves.

*disclaimer; i am not a hardcore fan of chris', i enjoy his video's and think he is incredibly courageous for making video's like this for entertainment. I am defending him against close-minded people who believe the stereotype of what a man is is the only way to be.

Oh and one last thing, nothing disgusts me more than close-minded gay men. Out of all the people you should have been the one to accept others in being different, in order to be accepted. I'd rather be represented by chris than any of the 'normal' ones out there.

Like chris' mom said, fuck youicon_smile.gif

Chris Crocker has been quoted many times as saying that this persona is a character. He is acting. He's performing for an audience. If you're not a member of the audience, (I'm not) then simply move along.

The only video Chris has made in which he claims to be not acting is the one in which he decries the horrible atrocities being committed against Britney Spears. It's a pretty famous one, but I'm too lazy to grab a link.

He might be crazy, but the world needs a little funny harmless crazy to balance out the bad scary crazy. I don't pay regular attention to him, but I get a good laugh when I do.

RunintheCityMadonna - Drowned World / Substitute For Love Lyrics

My favorite Madonna song off my favorite Madonna album. I love the mellow tone paired with William Orbit's bleeps and blips.

There are people who will look at someone like Chris Crocker and figure he's representative of the entire gay community, but who cares? These people's opinions have no value in my book. Ya gotta give him some credit for having the balls to express himself in a gender bending way when so many guys (myself included) are a little too caught up in playing it macho all the time.

He cares more about Britney's career than Britney! Did you catch her video for this song? She looks like she's more in the mood for a nap than a video shoot.

You're right RBY71... afterall, how else would we know just how sane we are, if we couldn't judge it against how sane someone else is not...

But how much do we have to take and hear from those crazies before they just become another dull drum just wasting energy in the backround of reality?

I think he's great. He's entertaining, funny, bizarre, unhinged (the best people are), passionate, and has a bigger pair than most guys, both gay and straight, nelly and butch, out there.

At first I made a snap judgement of him, which wasn't a positive one. While I'll never really understand the desire that some guys have to look, dress, and act like an exagggerated form of femininity, who am I to judge? (I mean, can my eyebrows get any thinner?)

Chris is an entertainer, not a spokesperson for homosexuality. It's a ridiculous notion, one that I can expect from some close-minded heteros, not other gay men. Yeah, there'll be those heteros that look at him and say 'see...they're all screwed up', but so what? That's their problem. I doubt Chris' intentions with these videos were to be seen as the rainbow posterboy, so he need not apologize for who he is, and the 'image of homosexuality' he's portraying.

It's too bad I'm not surprised at some of the comments on here. I find the worst judgements made against gay men come from within our community, not the straight community.

i'm pretty sure if britney did the exact same thing in a home made youtube video alot less people would care.

i think the problem here is that 13 year old girls are probably making the exact same video. that to me is who he represents. and not in the way that he's a gay guy trying to be a girl, whatever to that. i'm more worried that 13 year old girls think it's cool to be a slut. Paris hilton is the exact same kinda crap role model.

for those who watch South Park, i'm pretty sure Chris Crocker must've bought the "Stupid Spoiled whore: Video Playset. Let everyone see your cooooooch"
