Anybody use Grindr mobile? Do you like it? Is it creepy to know anyone can find out who you are? Should I get it?

not a user, but that might explain some of the weird eye exchanges of "guess who" at the gym..

i am due for a free upgrade to a blackberry (albeit an older version) in a couple months...

will it detect other blackberry units only or any nearby units, including iphone users

I'm on it and am not worried about who might see me logged on it...it's just another gadget.

Have met some great guys there - we've met up to work out, we've met up to hang out and we've met up to play...use it for whatever you are looking for.

I'm on it all the time. . . going to a new place now is pretty interesting. I've met some cool friends off of it, but I've never actually used it to hook up. Nobody can really tell where you are, so I'd recommend you get it.

I've used it off and on..(for the iphone) .....the fun thing is when the locator messes up....I start getting guys pick-up lines from Europe and the Middle East....because it will mess up my location and pick a random location.

It's a lot of fun because lots of guys use it that would never go on a site like this or any traditional site.

Question: I don't use Grindr, but have looked into it. I understand that Grindr is GPS based, but is there a way to set your own locator to a different address?

I mean, are people on Grindr able to pinpoint your exact location?

That is kind of a stalker nightmare situation, especially if you have people able to show up at your house.

Not without severely hacking your iphone to the point of ridiculousness.

Kinda creepy, but kinda exiting too.

Right now I'm thinking I should go use it just because the technology is cool. Who cares about some guys, its the technology that turns me on icon_razz.gif

Ur GPS measures longitude but not altitude. Meaning if ure sitting on the 3rd floor of a 25 stories building, then someone whos 0 meters away could be perfectly be on the 1st floor right under u, on the terrasse or on a balloon flying by.

A lot of my friends have it, and they'll use it when we're out at a gay bar, or someplace new. They'll try to find other people on it, and then giggle and talk smack about them. I guess I just don't get it. Just one more way that technology is fucking with actual face-to-face communications. Not for me.

Yes I know; that's why I said it isn't completely accurate. Additionally the GPS is only accurate up to a certain amount longitudinally. For some areas, if you are higher up (IE in a high rise building), it messes with the GPS a lot, screwing up your location significantly.

    It's a fascinating application nonetheless.

I've been using Grindr, however, the most flirtatious guys seem to be the ones who eventually see me in public from afar and send me a message that they were too afraid to come up to me and say hi. WTF?

Also, Grindr has been crashing regularly on my iPhone 4, and I've just recovered from a 5-day failure to send & receive messages. Grindr support was able to correct it eventually. If anyone experiences this problem, be sure to ask for a "profile communication reset" and that should take care of it.

Anyway, I find Grindr entertaining, despite the stalking potential. Apparently I don't have that problem because I'm too intimidating to say hi to in person! lol

No. The accuracy is within a mile or so. It has given me zero feet for a guy when I am in my kitchen! ... icon_lol.gif ... That guy and I had a good laugh when I texted him about it. Another guy contacted me cuz Grindr indicated I was just a few feet away when he was in a theater. I was at home.

I think most guys are on it for sex. I wasnt and neither was the guy I am now dating and met via Grindr. So just see it as just another venue to hopefully meet a nice guy.

I use it when I feel comfortable doing so, like out at a bar.

Not sure I could use it at the gym. I'd be worried about folks looking at my screen. My gym has a number of hot guys. But I get the vibe I'd become a target if I made myself out to be a gay and on the prowl.
