Search google for leather bars. You can't get much more "masculine" than that. icon_biggrin.gif

The Manhattan Eagle used to be pretty masculine, lots of the guys shirtless when I was there, and in leather. Yeah, try the Eagle, the place reeks of testosterone. (I think officially called Eagle NYC, but we all just called it the Manhattan Eagle).

I also liked the Townhouse. A very exclusive crowd of mid-age professionals, with really no young twinks nor too many old queens that I ever saw. The limousines were double-parked outside, and your only problem was to not hit on a butch bodyguard at the bar, instead of the guy he was protecting, and look like a fool.

I always went with another guy to avoid that problem, and indeed, they may not let you enter if you're alone, and not suitably attired. But the guys there were always masculine, as I define the term, men of influence & quiet power, not dressing up as posers.

Oh lord. The Eagle and Gymbar are as masculine as my hairy great-grandma. Just coz there's hair does not mean there's manliness. If u wanna find "guy guys" in NYC u gotta stay outa the bars. Join a softball league.

Therapy usually had nice looking masculine guys

as far as gym bar = sports on the tv but no one watching, just a bunch of butch admirers

eagle = purposely dark to hide the ugly/barebackers

ddices saidmasculine bars in new york city,,they exist? suggestions?

I already mentioned the Eagle, as some others here have. When I was there, half the guys had their shirts off. The place reeks of testosterone.

But if want a different kind of masculinity, try the Townhouse. You may not even be able to get in, if you are alone, or look shabby.

It is very exclusive. The men there are uber-masculine, but in a different way. They are millionaires, or even billionaires. None of this leather crap posing.

They wear the ease of men who are in charge, who command others. If you think you are ready for that, I do recommend the Townhouse, as I mentioned earlier above.

i'm sure these bars are fun, but it's a shame that we've socially stratefied ourselves once again in order to re-establish that we're tough enough for straight society.

i'm glad that we live in a country where we can be into whatever we're into, but i wish i understood just a little better why as homosexuals we currently seem to be fixated on seeking out men that are the antithesis of certain homosexual stereotypes. we grow and become who we are regardless of the outcome, but on RJ, not eschewing feminine mannerisms seems to be a disdainful character trait as many of us have listed in our profiles.

i am not criticising our community in any way, as I myself am a member and a fitness fanatic, but I am curious as to what everyone's thoughts are on this matter.

Some men try real real real hard to be and seek out other gay men who are "the antithesis of certain homosexual stereotypes" because they are terrified of being identified or thought of as a feminine gay man.

Some men know that stereotypes are bullshit. ignore the whole issue and don't worry about being th antithesis of anything because they are comfortable with who they are......so they like to be around other men they feel comfortable with. Gues what? Some of these guys happen to naturally be masculine and the antithesis of certain stereotypes. It has nothing to do with eschewing anyone.

Some of the bars mentioned ( and others that exist.........but I ain't balabbing where they are) provide a gathering place for guys to do that.

    It's that simple.

In my, ahem, younger days (mid 30s) I visited the Townhouse on a trip to NYC. I was living for years in LA and vaguely heard of it. I went in in jeans, nice boots and a black sweater, and a quite expensive leather jacket. It seems everyone there was in a suit...Needless to say, I didnt pay for a single drink all night long! So there blows that theory of business suit elitism. Now, I don't mind showtunes at all but everyone was at the piano singing the entire Sondheim songbook. ( I thought I actually spotted Stephen himself..lol)
