My partner, myself, and a buddy where hanging out in the harbor here in Chicago last night. We are all mid distance runners, and the subject came up of going someplace fun to run a half marathon.

After some research on the web, we landed on either Paris or Berlin next spring. I have been to both cities recently, so I am good with the basics. I would love to hear experiences from anyone who has run either event previously or who has done a half/full as part of an international trip.

Also has any one navigated the medical permission document required for France using a US doctor? If so, how did that work?

Thanks for sharing any info out there.

I haven't done a half/full marathon outside the States, but when I was training for the AIDS Marathon in Honolulu, the AIDS Marathon runners that were training for Florence, Italy were also training with us. After the Florence Marathon, some of the people I kept in touch with said one thing they weren't prepared for was the roads (parts of it was cobblestones and uneven pavement). So I guess my point is to research the course that you'll be running... Then again, you mentioned you've been to Paris and Berlin recently, so you should be fine. Good Luck!

Wow, good tip. I had not thought about the cobbled streets. Both events have yet to announce the 2011 course, so we will need to factor that in too. Thank you!
