Well guys, if you take a peek at our pics you'll see Spencer, our white Jack, sitting on the arm of Bill's armchair.

On Friday early in the morning, he had a massive stroke. He's had brain cancer for about a year or two. His left eye has small inoperable tumours.

The last three days have been intense. It's been 24/7 care with this site (yes we mean you) as the one relief we had.

I've spent considerable amounts of time researching his troubles with google and discovered that many of his troubles, spinning in circles, partial paralysis, no eating drinking or bowel movements were exacerbated by Vestibular disorder.

I used everything I knew from volunteering in palliative care, Bill took days off and applied himself as well (no sleep for us) and GUESS WHAT?

Spencer's now eating, drinking, moving his bowels and his limbs are working again, though progress is slow. The vet is very happy. We are too! He'll always have a list to the left and his head will always be tilted a little, but he made it. He's a quieter little fellow now, but happy as a piggy in mud, and has just had a small bowl of vanilla frozen yogurt. Good boy!

    He's 15.

    -Doug (and Bill, too)

We also wanted to say thanks for the MOTD, because it made us feel good when good was hard to find.

So for you guys, here. We're talking to you and about you with these lyrics:

I've always come to the conclusion that 'but' is the way
Of asking for permission to lay something heavy on ones head
So I have tried to not be the one who 'll fall into that line
But what I feel inside I think you should know

And baby that's you - you - you
    Made life's his*to*ry
Cause you've brought some joy inside my tears
And you have done what no one thought could be
You've brought some joy inside my tears

I've always felt that tomorrow is for those who are too much afraid
To go past yesterday and start living for today
I feel that lasting moments are coming far and few between
So I should tell you of the happiness that you bring
Baby, baby it's you - you - you
    Made life's his*to*ry
Oh baby, you've brought some joy inside my tears
Baby you have done what no one thought could be
You brought some joy inside my tears
You brought some joy inside my tears
You brought some joy inside my tears

You've brought some joy inside my tears
Baby, baby you have done what no one thought could be
He - y, you brought some joy inside my tears
    Gotta tell you
    You - you - you made life's his*to*ry
You brought some joy inside my tears
    - you brought you brought you brought some joy inside my tears
Baby baby baby you have done what no one thought could be
You brought some joy inside my tears

You made it baby you made it baby made it made life's his*to*ry
    - you you you made life's his*to*ry
You brought some joy inside my tears
You have done what no one thought could be
    - No-body ever thought it would be
You have done what no one thought could be

You you you made life's his*to*ry
    - Gotta shout about it baby
You brought some joy inside my tears

You have done what no one thought could be
You brought some joy inside my tears
You you you made life's his*to*ry
You brought some joy inside my tears
You brought some joy inside my tears
You brought some joy inside my
    Tears

Doug and Bill! I am so sorry to hear those news on your beloved pet! up until three years ago my cat Merry passed away from liver failure do to Feline's Aids complications! she was a fighter til the very end! everyone in my family wanted me to put her to sleep, but after seeing how she fought for her life I always hoped that maybe just maybe she will recuperate? well it got to a point where I just couldn't bear see her suffer anymore, so one of my family members took her to the vet to put her to sleep. Needless to say I took it very hard until two years later when my sister got me a pussycat! I hope things get better for all of you!

Well, this topic is to say to you guys of RJ that if you ever feel you don't have an impact, a big one, you do. Huge hugs, OK?

Thanks for being here on RJ.

We have a rigid kiddie pool in the back yard where we've been giving Spencer water physical therapy, and it's working. They told us 72 hours and we'll know either way (short of another stroke). Fingers crossed.

Thanks ...hey he's friskier today and I swear he has a surprised expression on his doggy face that his legs are working again. Hopefully sight and hearing will return to his left side in the next few weeks.

Your kindness and concern is sure proof of the kind of men you are, and how privileged we are to know you.

    Doug and Bill,

As a fellow Jack Russell owner, my heart goes out to you two. I'm so glad to hear the little guy is recovering from his scary setback. I know you're enjoying every day you have with him as the gift that he is. And I'm sure he's doing the same.

    Much love,

    Eric and Ripley

    Hi guys,
you don't know me from Adam, but wanted to send my best wishes for Spencer's speedy recovery. I have a very active beagle, and I know I would be devastated if anything like that happened to him.

    Cheers to Spencer!

I had a mongrel once and at some point my dad ran over the dog's leg by accident. since then, he could only walk with his two front legs and most of the times lying on his side. on mornings we would see him at the lower end of our porch ramp all dirty, probably from crawling around too much during the night.

surprisingly after more than a year, he just stood up and walked normally. i noticed that he was never too depressed or gloomy during his ¨disabled¨ days. that dog had a lot of sunshine in him. His name was Byte (my friends freak out when we beckon him) and lived to be 12.

lol, here's Spencer yesterday after a walk..yep, down the block and back, all wobbley and still a little circling and angled head but the recovery is amazing so far.

You can see he's still limp on his left side.

..and here's Bill cuddling him up, as usual! Spencer's voice came back yesterday, which scared the crap out of us when he decided he wanted a snck when we made lunch.

Thanks guys; I think Spencer is feeling your vibes!

Doug and Bill, as you know I just went through the loss of my own beloved pet, of over 15 years. I am happy that Spencer has made a recovery and hope that it continues.

I know how traumatic it is to lose or be threatened with the loss of a being who has been such a part of one's life. My thoughts are with you and my hope is that Spencer will be around for a few more years of high-quality life with you guys.

I just gave my dog a big hug and we're planning a fun outing in Spencer's honor.
