I'm sure I can speak for a lot of us that when we go onliine to meet someone on any site, we expect to have a general idea of what the person may look like. I don't care what anyone says. There has to be some general attraction first in order for something to spark between two people. A lot of us have had the unfortunate experience of meeting someone in person after talking online and in some cases they look NOTHING like what you imagined or have seen from pictures, but worst of all in anyone's online experience can you loathe to begin to deal with someone using your pictures as their own.

Not only is it on their profile, but it is showing as their primary picture. WTF! It makes you wonder. Are people on this site that low with their self-esteem that they resort to something this petty? I'm not going to name names for the sake of not sounding petty myself. I would like to think of myself as a classy guy, but there are certain things that can piss someone off and that certainly is one of them. USE YOUR OWN FACE!icon_exclaim.gificon_mad.gificon_twisted.gificon_evil.gif or in this case your own torso! If you read this, you know who you are and I'd appreciate it if you would remove it.

I'm sure a lot of us agree with this, right?

This phenomenon has been around a lot longer than RealJock. One nice thing about RealJock, at least, is verification. If the profile you're looking at is verified, then you know the pictures are real.

tkd1987, you look great. You should get verified, so folks will know that you are the real deal.

Until someone is verified, you never know if they will look anything like their pictures.

You're right. When i first got on this site, i really didn't see the whole verification thing as a big deal, especially since i posted a lot of pictures of myself anyways. Apparently it appears that i have to now. I was pretty much talking about any chat site in general though, not just realjock with all the issues that i put in the forum. THanks for responding. First forum i wrote since being on lol.

Frankly, even verification can be easily faked. Pretty much, getting on cam is the best way to prove you are you.

i never understood why anyone would use deceiving pictures of themselves to begin with, because i had always assumed that implicit in developing an online profile was the chance that i would be physically meeting the other person someday, remote as it would seem at the time of correspondence. why would i try to cultivate an online relationship (in the broadest sense of the term) with someone else when i wasn't who i said i was? wouldn't that just work against me in the long run? it sure would destroy the chances of getting a lover, but more importantly for me, it would destroy the chances of making a good friend. i certainly don't want a relationship based off of deception (unless i was a decepticon, and only if i was soundwave, because he was the coolest).

i suppose the idea of verification helps to a degree, but since that can apparently also be forged (do guys REALLY have that much time on their hands?), the verification process is marginal at best. i suppose i should just get off my lazy ass and do it too, but i figured that in lieu of verification, the veracity of my character can be assessed by my various posts. i am not skilled enough nor consistent enough a liar to develop an online character that isn't as random and idiosyncratic as i tend to be in real life.

i personally don't think i photograph well, and have a hard time trying to take pictures of me i actually like, but i have no problem with cam/flipvideo. i've sent video of me engaging the other person in a one-way dialogue on topics we've actually either written about to each other online or talked about over the telephone. (i like to pretend that i'm engaging in a type of delayed communication like they did in stanley kubrik's, 2001 a space odyssey, but that's just me) sure my current pics are a bit old, but i really haven't changed that much. i'm still short, asian, and bald (i don't think the post 39-year old growth spurt to shoot me up to 6'0" is actually going to happen. i'm ready to let that go now) . if anything, i'm much more fit now than i was in my photos. i suppose i'll have to update my profile with the "standard shirtless rj picture" sometime soon, but that really isn't my style at all. and i will update my photos, eventually.

meh. i've rambled too long in this post. i blame the tea on an empty stomach i just drank. okay. that was my two cents. be well peeps.

    I agree.

Also, you can post a few pictures of yourself, especially those that don't look like they have been shot by a professional modeling outfit.

As you get RJ buddies and meet them, take pictures with them and post them.

Videocamming is fine when you have the time, but that's not the same as a quick look at a profile to see if there is evidence there that the person to whom you are speaking is real....is fleshed out there....and whose pictures match their descriptions.

I find it flattering when someone uses my pictures.
But they don't find it very flattering when they receive a DMCA take-down notice from my attorney. icon_wink.gif

What is as annoying is people using like 10 year old photos of them in their main picture and none that are current. I actually met someone before who used a decade old pic and looked nothing like them now. I left him at the restaurant about 5 minutes into the converstion!

Reveals the thought processes of the person to be a combination of manipulative and illogical. They basically just lied about themselves in terms of what they look like and age in order to coax someone into meeting them. How does blatant lying and pure manipulativeness encourage anyone to like that person?

It reads volumes into who they are as a person when they pull a stunt like that.

The surest way to avoid having someone use your photos online? Clearly show your face. In multiple photos.

The surest way to circumvent a photo faker when you meet? Always meet at Starbucks and always show up early. If they get out of their car and look decrepit, start your car and leave.

I had posted a body pic on Guyswithiphones.com and soon spotted someone on here using it as their profile pic. Luckily, he moderators were kind enough to remove his pics.

It was flattering, I suppose, but sort of creepy to think someone was out there pretending to be me.

I hate that shit. If someone won't post a recent pic out of fear no one will talk to you, the person obviously have issues anyway. The way I see it is, if you don't like the way I look then don't fucking look at me...grow up and post a real pic guys, damn.

fakers they get upset when you suggest they are behaving like fakers
fakers only have a few pics and never change them (unless they are deluxe fakers)

Tho some guys cant go on Cam, IE when i was in afghan and i was verfied, so i resorted to tasking facebook and then looking closely at how people spoke to him on the facebook, it was obviously he was real when loads of pics on facebook and people talking about events etc they been 2.

Im just saying, dont hit people down if they cant cam,. verfication is the best you can do and remember, you can always leave the site and head down to a bar or something.

WOW! Thats insane. It's never been that extreme for me. It's has always been little to moderate things with me to where i was no longer attracted to the person, but that's horrible.

I don't see why. I saw them and they look good, but not fake. whoever told you that should fuck off and mind their own business if they had any.
