RIM FAILS....again

This launch was aimed at the consumer market, not the enterprise market and after all the hype behind the BB Torch, they barely managed to sell 150 000 in 3 days. This sale numbers arent so bad at all, but nothing compared to the 7 digits the iPhone sold during a weekend. The funny part is how much they marketed this phone and all the expectations behind it, even RIM bought into their own marketing. FAIL

    pmindemann - gizmodo"Daddy, what's a rim?"
"Hey, watch your...! Oh, wait. RIM was a company that made something kind of like your iPhone."
    "What happened to them?"
"They tried to make something like the iPhone."

This is what happens when you get a group of old people who make decisions and don't listen to their young interns who know which words have shifted in meaning in the past 20-30 years.

There is a hipness or coolness factor that belongs to iPhone and Android. Just as Microsoft is considered old-school, may be RIM has the same reputation, regardless of what they come out with.

I'd agree it's probably more of a reputation issue than anything... I love mine icon_smile.gif

Plus.. Blackberry Phones are more of a business oriented phone, which is easily found out if you look in the settings and see all the enterprise stuff...(I forget what they call it) I personally never liked the iphone and wouldn't want it... The only exception to that would be the new iphone 4 since it FINALLY (and I can't emphasize that one enough) has multitasking. However, apple has so many bugs to work out of it I'd stay away for a while. I know the new OS really made my ipod have issues.

Let's not forget Rim's HORRID BB operating system. I have many friends with RIM jobs (2 of them are in development positions) and even THEY say that while the device itself may be gorgeous (at times) the OS makes it horribly shit.

Remember the Storm, with it's bullshit "touch-click" screen?

    Fail. x1000

One thing I did like about BB's was the keypad which made it an almost perfect messaging phone. The OS is horrendous, I can't remember how many times I had to restore my phone and restore my contacts after it got hung up.

BB's are good for business and avid emailers who can't separate work from home life. I won't go back to one.

If I recall correctly, the OS issues only affected the iPod touch and the iPhone 3G. I went from the 3G to the 4 and have not had any problems at all.

I upgraded yesterday from the bold 9000 to the bold 9700, decided the Torch would be beset with issues, new touch screen, new OS.
The bold is great, the montly tariff is represents good value for money, unlike the shockingly bad deals the phone companies sell for iphone. The battery life is excellent, something which android phones need to work on. So all in all I'm happy.
    Thankyou RIM

For those who are confused by the acronyms:

RIM = Research In Motion. The company that makes the Blackberry phones.
    BB = Blackberry

If they're not careful, they're going to end up the next Palm. Though they have a ways to go before they fall to that level. Still, they're not being innovative enough.

Rim is when one person gives oral to another person's anus, typically for sexual pleasure. It's also a phone apparently.

It's a generalization, but it's true in more cases than not. I fought with my 67 year old boss on a daily basis. I had to introduce YouTube, myspace, and facebook to him. Watching him navigate his iPhone was horrendous, as I could tell his brain was about 3 step behind what he currently pressed, and he couldn't even grasp the basic concept of how much pressure over a certain amount of space needs to be pressed in order to yield the desired result. The finger would just jam itself arbitrarily over the entire screen repeatedly and then he looked puzzled as to why nothing happened.

Then again, a 45 year old co-worker was completely tech savvy and knew more than me.

Reasearch in Motion. It's a company that controls a massive amount of the smartphone market (#2 worldwide), particularly the corporate market. Apple hates RIM for this and has been flexing its PR muscle at every turn in order to degrade the integrity of its brand within the larger consumer psyche.

I've owned an iPhone and a BlackBerry. The iPhone did not meet my needs, while the BlackBerry is perfect from both a corporate and personal perspective. Apple has been trying to tap into the corporate market for years, and has been largely unsuccessful.

Note that I did cave and finally gave in to the iPad. I love it. It's perfect for my consumer needs (eReader, mostly), but the iPhone just doesn't cut it for my email/smartphone needs.

Wait until Google's new "iPad killer" is introduced into the market - especially if it's subsidized. Apple's going to go batshit crazy.

Apple releases the iPhone 3 years ago putting all phone companies under check and now all we see around us are a whole bunch of iPhone wannabes, some of them very good like the Androids some others a total failure like Palm and BlackBerry.

Apple releases an iPad and the story repeats.

Dont blame Apple, blame their competitors for doing it wrong. Kudos to google that so far is the only company able to compete and push Apple to its limits.

PS:Blackberry is not surviving cause of hardware specs or physical keyboard but for enterprise software. They know it wont take long before the iphone penetrates this market, some companies are already giving iPhones to their employees as opposed to BlackBerries.
