...just like the religious right and its leaders do...

So let's at least get clear about one important fact: there is no Christian view of marriage; there are different Christian views, even if you follow the Bible. For over a millennium, the Christian church in Europe leaned toward Paul. It did not sanctify marriage but regarded it as a civil ceremony instead.

That's probably the truest video I've ever seen concerning "bible based" marriage. icon_lol.gif

IMHO, I think the author of the HuffPo article is stretching and reaching a bit.

Yeah, things in society worked very differently 3000+ years ago in the middle east.

Even as recently as 100 years ago, women were largely little better than chattel property in many parts of the world.

And through Jesus & Paul's time, arranged marriages were the norm.

Paul had a "particular calling to be single", and even admits that not all men shared his gift (of being single for the sake of his vocation/calling by Christ).

For them, it was better to marry than to burn in lust (boys will be boys, after all, right?) and fornicate. (As I have been lead to understand, fornication in the context of the New Testament is a kind of a catch all for all forms of immoral carnal knowledge - i.e. sex outside of marriage).

Undeniably, there are many models of marriage presented in the Bible, but the one that appears to receive the most focus and support from other parts of scripture, is the one that most fundamental Christians tend to uphold.

    For better or worse. icon_confused.gif
