So I was offered the chance to go to this event this year with a good friend and hesitated a little. I have heard it is crowded and crazy down there!! I am all for crazy but not a big fan of crowds. Never been to the city so I would definitely like to see other sites while I am at it. Anyways if there are any RJ'ers down there hit me up! It would be cool to hang.

If anyone has been there before what did you think about it?

as i live in one of the best and largest gay-friendly neighborhood of new orleans, adjacent to the french quarter where most of Southern Decadence takes place, i am a regular visitor to D and enjoy "people watching" during the "gay mardi gras".

it can be somewhat crowded (but not violent or unruly) here during D, the crowds made up of often shritless gay guys getting a lil' bit drunk and enjoying themselves.

you will definately see stuff here that you won't see in nashville!

    COME ONN DOWNNNNN!!!! icon_cool.gif

I wish I was going to New Orleans around this "Southern Decadence" time but the game plan is to visit in October sometime, so I'll miss all the fun. icon_sad.gif

This year's Southern Decadence will be my first. Going with some friends who want to primarily visit New Orleans. It was ironic that SD is taking place, but, we bought VIP passes nonetheless. Def want to see the sights and take in some great restaurants, tours, and just general wandering around town.

    Can't wait!

Does anyone else have any stories about past Decadence trips? The guy I'm kinda seeing wants me to go with him and his friends, but I'm still a little on the fence. I've seen pics from previous years and it almost seems like it's too crowded to even be enjoyable.

This might sound like a stupid question, but besides the obvious eye candy binge what exactly is there to do there? I don't think I'd enjoy the packed, crowded bars, and I've been to NOLA enough times that Bourbon St. isn't all that exciting to me anymore. I've never been to any pride event and I'm curious as to what I might expect. I'd love to hear any stories and/or recommendations.

BB, if you don't hink you would enjoy seeing shirtless, in shape guys tightly packed into gay bars; then you should stay away from Decadence. icon_cool.gif

As a local, I'll clue you in to the fact that the pics you normally see is on Bourbon St near the 3 biggest gay bars. There are also great bars a block or two just off that intersection, which are fun and not shoulder to shoulder. Wander around. If you don't like big crowd, just keep an arm's length away from that intersection. It IS an experience, usually without any problems at all.icon_wink.gif
