Cable News Ratings

Here is a link for cable news ratings, comparing MSNBC, CNN, FOX News, and Headline News each night. The numbers are representative of the key demographic (25-54). The numbers for total viewers would be much higher, obviously.

I post this link in order to show that FOX News not just beats, but dominates (more viewers in the demo for nearly every show listed than the other three networks combined) in the 25-54 age range. This proves that it isn't just senior citizens (although there is nothing wrong with any channel that has a largely senior audience) who watch FOX. They win even when you bring the age range down.

While I agree that ratings don't prove anything about accuracy, per se, I mainly posted this URL in response to those people who are raving that FOX's audience is large only because seniors tune in. This shows that FOX wins with the younger crowd as well.

I just can't understand why people would rather watch Fox, instead of Keith Olbermann reading Thurber on MSNBC. icon_rolleyes.gif

Lol yeah I saw this on my DVR. Unlike most of the liberals here who ONLY watch shows that reinforce their own opinion, I watch the libs (Olbermann, Maddow, Sanchez), the conservatives (Hannity), and those who are in between (O'Reilly, Beck). Yeah I know, I watch a lot of op-ed type shows, but most of it is DVR'd.

Watching Olbermann makes my head hurt though, I have to say.

Of course...entertainment always trumps news. It is relevant to compare entertainment to news in terms of ratings how?

the ratings for "liberal" channels are lower than FOX because the smart ones read their news icon_smile.gif. Honestly, its best to get your news from multiple sources with a range of views, FOX news included.

Whats also sad, while a majority of militarys members are 'die-hard' republicans. They organizations on base that offer televisions in their waiting rooms refuse to show any other news network but FOX. I don't know if this is an attempt to force us to adapt(brainwash) FOX's ideas, what they call unbiased reporting but it's been brought up by members who don't want one sided arguments daily.

Base leadership states however, it's what the majority wants and they feel better with FOX due to objectionable content being show on other news network. Pure BS if you ask me but that could account for the large numbers as well.

Those numbers would be included for bases inside the United States, but not for bases outside the US. These particular numbers are domestic only. Again though, that is a stretch to explain the numbers. If you have been on any college campus/gym, CNN/MSNBC is on all day on their televisions. Colleges outnumber military members by a vast degree, so that would more than cancel any military "bump" out.

Agreed I watch FOX a lot for the news and not the opinion programs. I like to get both sides of the story and make up my own mind. Can't stand to watch Hannity and only tolerate Beck. Vice versa goes for the ultra Liberal opinion programs on the other networks. Can't believe they gave Joy Behar her own show....she makes me gag...and not in a good way.

Wow really? So a man isn't allowed to get emotional every once in awhile? If you actually watched his show you would realize that happens very rarely.

They should show news from other countries, the military of all people should be getting a wider view.

Good post...as I said before, I watch all the opinion programs when I can, and I usually keep track of the hard news during the day through the internet from a variety of sites.

Hannity is not one of my favorites...while he is not as nasty as Olbermann, he does have that Maddow-esque smugness about him that I am not a huge fan of.

The O'Reilly Factor is easily my favorite of all the opinion shows. I love the honest debates...despite what critics say, he does allow all sorts of opinions to be heard on his show. Also, he isn't a hard line ideologue and that really appeals to me. I think it appeals to a lot of people, based on the high ratings.

I agree on Bahar...I don't understand how a comedian gets a news show (or a sportscaster, in Olbermann's case). Beck was a stand up comedian in his younger years, but had a politically based radio show for years before Headline News gave him his first shot at a TV show.

You don't know anything about him, obviously.

The man is a recovering alcoholic who was found in a fetal position on his kitchen floor with a gun to his own head. He was abused by a member of his family as a child...when he uses his own life experiences in relation to things that caused him pain, and then uses the contrast of the story of how he was helped by others, along with his own will, to get to where he is today he does get a little teary eyed. Who wouldn't?

Maybe you are a robot who wouldn't cry. But, as somebody who was abused as a child myself, anybody who tells me that somebody with those dark experiences doesn't get a little teary eyed maybe a bit easier than the person without those horrible things happening to them is very, very ignorant.
