    Your Kidneys...

    kidney_diagram_1.jpg

When everything works right inside your body...you don't know it exists...your organs that is...

It's only when an organ stops functioning correctly, that your aware that it's there, inside of you, and actually has a purpose...

Before I paraphrase what the 'experts' know...I'd first like to add a few words of my own...and what prompted me to start this...

(I'm sure this is elementry to most)

But a few weeks ago...while sitting for long periods driving (job)...semi-truck.jpg...I started feeling uncomfortable around the kidney areas...I could tell it was the kidneys cause it was both sides...I thought it was from just sitting for long periods...

But then I got out a few days ago...and excercised...(it was hot and humid, and in the hot humid south, you sweat off a lot of moisture)...

Well anyways...I had read somewhere where your suppose to drink at least a gallon of water a day.........infact...I got that information while on the 'diabetes thread'....tn_1_Gallon_Water_Bottle.jpg

Then I realized (duh) that the kidneys, like the liver, is a filter of sorts...and that water some how helps facilitate the process...so I starting drinking water...and the uncomfortable feeling went away almost immediatly...

In other words, my problem was I wasn't drinking enough water...I was sweating off, and urinating more than I was taking in...

So now of course, I see the importance of drinking lot's of water...and that there really is no substitute for water...not soda, not energy coffee drinks, not sweetened fruit juices ect ect...I realized nothing has the same cleansing effect on your body or kidneys than does water...

Now I must warn, none of this is 'scientific'...I'm just going by my own bodies reaction to water or lack of...

But time permiting...the next few posts I would like to paraphrase other interesting facts about the kidneys, and the function they play in the over all health of our bodies...

(added note) I also see the importance of excercising...cause when you do you firm up your muscles which keeps your posture proper and takes pressure off of your internal organs...) Again...I know...duh...

Anyways...I will follow up with other info about the kidneys and their functions, and healthy up keep of...

Kidney function and reasons of failure...

    http://kidney.niddk.nih.gov/Kudiseases/pubs/yourkidneys/#kidneys

The above link is to a site with very easy to read explained functions of the kidney...way better than I could tell it...

    kidney.gif

But from what I gathered from glancing over it...I learned the kidneys filter out waste from the blood stream...like 200 quarts of blood a day, to filter out 2 quarts of waste...

The kidneys filter out the 'waste' while leaving substances you need, in your blood stream...(amazing)...

Also I read where pain killers or other powerful over the counter meds can damage kidneys...and or poisoning...blunt trama...massive blood loss...and other things....

Again...most of us, when we're young and in good shape, just don't notice all these internal organs...it's not until they stop functioning correctly that most become aware of them and learn of their function...

We take a lot for granted when we're younger...as if our bodies will go on functioning seemlessly forever...if that were the case there would be no grave yards....

    1813759901_a6a78edeb9.jpg?v=0

Eventually everything in our bodies will break down, good health or not...

But there's no need in rushing the process...while I am alive...I want to be healthy...
Over the next few days, time permitting, I will do more research on the kidneys, and their function, and vitamins that are good for...
    Mainly for my own education...
Cause I know most of the people on this site are far more knowledgable on healthy up keep than I am...I'm just now kinda starting to delve into it...

Yeah water is so huge. I wasn't drinking enough and had headaches, migraines, and body aches. Now drink enough water, 100x better! In fact cut out caffeine too since that dehydrates you too.

MuchMoreThanMuscle saidIsn't Starlite a doll? He always posts such informative helpful posts. And I love the way he posts pictures to help expand on his story telling. That cemetery photo made me chuckle. icon_smile.gif

You guys are amazing and yes the Kidneys are SO IMPORTANT!! Assisting with electrolyte balance, hormone production, blood pressure regulation, vitamin D metabolism, hemoglobin production and of course waste disposal. Best thing to do aside from taking in adequate fluids is also to work on reducing blood pressure. Reduce your salt intake and increase lower body flexibility to reduce blood pressure. Caffeine, stimulants, high cholesterol, high blood sugars, inflammation and stress are all things that cause elevated blood pressure and should be taken seriously. icon_smile.gif

    Found the culprit...

    monster_java.jpg

At least in my case, I found the culprit to why my kidneys were feeling 'odd' a week ago, and what prompted me to start this thread...

It's the coffee energy drinks....I went without one for days...and felt fine...as soon as I started drinking one today...that same kidney feeling came back...

So what should I conclude...I have to be fair...are all energy drinks bad for your kidneys?
    Or just the coffee ones?
Or is it just my own bodies reaction to an ingredient in them?

Here's the ingredients as listed on the can

    reduced fat milk
    filtered water
    sucrose
    glucose
    coffee
    taurine
    sodiom sitrate
    natural flavors
    natural gum stabilizers icon_question.gif
    natural color
    pamex ginsing root extract
    tricalcium
    phosphate
    ascorbic acid
    caffeine
    niacin
    sucralose
    glucuronolactone
    guarama seed extract
    inositol icon_question.gif
    l-carintine
    pyridoxine hydrocloride icon_eek.gif
    ryboflavon
    maljodextrim
    cyanocabbalamil icon_neutral.gif

    cyanide...cyanocabbalamil?

No wonder my kidneys feel funny when I drink this stuff

    monster_java.jpg

I mean if they have to filter out all that...wow...

Again...these ingredients are on the can...
I mean it's good stuff, but at what cost to your or my kidneys...

Starlite, if not drinking that stuff and drinking water seems to help that is good, but I would visit the doc to be sure all is OK.

I have one kidney. Due to the other one being atrophic, it was removed when I was a kid. I've done fine, but I stay cautious.

See that doc. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

    Good luck.

Seems like whenever you go to the doctor, they always tell you your going to die in six months...crazy-doctor.jpg

    You know...just seems like that...

When you don't go, you live forever...as soon as you go it's like...

'Our lab reports show that you have terminal killer enzymes in your blood that have eaten away at all your internal organs...sorry son, better send off your x-mas gifts now' icon_eek.gif

Ye, maybe your right...I should get a general check up...

I hate when they try to make small talk with you while they have you squashed up in some kind of yoga position examining you...

There like 'So, did you play sports?'

And your like thinking 'Doc so help me g-d, if you touch me there I'll....icon_eek.gif.....geez I can't believe he did that!!'

You know...they try to distract you with small talk as if you won't notice their doing to you whatever it is there doing...
