Why is singing/dancing to Lady Gaga's songs considered gay?

    Here goes..

I went to a pub recently and since it was karaoke night, a couple of my friends decided to go on stage and sing. They chose Lady Gaga's "Bad Romance" and our straight male friends refused to go on stage to either sing or dance to Lady Gaga's songs. The girls went on to the stage and sang and came back.

I checked out the song on Youtube afterwords and didn't find anything "gay" in it.. So why is singing/dancing to Lady Gaga considered to be gay? I ask this because I am not aware of it. Is it a cultural thing?

    ....have you SEEN Gaga?

Chick's more flamboyant than Church street, where the rainbows stretch as far as the eye can see

And I've discussed the GaGa conundrum ad naseum with my straight friends - most of them actually find her unattractive, and for a straight guy, singing along to a girl's song (or anything other than "Amazed" by Lonestar) is gay.

Its not consindered gay in my honest opinion. Just because she supports gays doesn't mean all her fans, or people who like her music is gay. ;3

Come on! It's totally gay, but that's ok. Your straight buds need to loosen up. If they do a gayish karaoke number so what! I've got straight guy friends that have been on stage with other guys and girls singing songs from Grease. Also gay, but they don't give a shit, cause they're having fun. So you're right, it's dumb that they wouldn't participate in the group, but be realistic Lady GaGa is targeted at girls and dance loving gay guys.

I dont think it's about if she's a "gay icon" or anything. I just think she's flamboyant and eccentric. Most straight...straight guys in general don't listen to Lady Gaga. It's just not their style. Don't bash 'em for it.

I am not sure if its the flamboyance.. Wasn't Queen just as flamboyant? And Freddie Mercury was gay, too. But everybody loves their song.

And honestly, I am not judging them for not singing Lady GaGa. I am just curious to know what makes a particular genre of music *gay*. Is singing High School Musical gay too?

Sounds like your friends are real party killers. Next time just have them take a few shots of Patron before hitting the karaoke bar.

Are you out to your friends? If so, I'd suggest telling them they're fucking assholes for saying that.

OK ignore all that stuff before me. Gaga intimidates women, so they started this rumor that she had a dick. She then danced at the awards show, with a thong in the camera's face, which proved that to be a falacy. I work in a female dominated workplace. You poor straight bastards have NO idea what kind of shit your wives and gf's are pulling on you. They laugh about it during breaks in the lunch room.

My straight friends love her more than I do. I saw her at Lollapalooza with all straight friends, but was definitely surrounded by women and other gay men. She did put on one hell of a show, and I really wasn't a big fan until I saw her live, but I am now. Although, I did feel the need to "redeem" myself with some serious front of the stage punk rock the next day. Just goes to show that people can like all types of music, no matter who they are.

Lady Gaga is incredibly gay and generally a poor choice in music (though better then the average unfortunately) atleast in my opinion.

But I a good portion definitely not the majority, of the preppy/jock crowd in college listen to her.

When you're out drinking at a bar, her music is fun to sing along with/dance to. It's a fact, hardly up for debate. Your friends are just lame and insecure.

There are some things I consider gay. A man putting another man's penis in his mouth is gay. A man sticking his erect penis up another man's ass is gay. A man kissing another man is gay.

If it doesn't involve some sort of physical or emotional connection between two members of the same sex it's hard for me to consider it gay.

Same reason Cher was such a stereotype of the gay community... Because GAY people actually do recognize good art when they see it.icon_rolleyes.gif

Cos her style is over the top, drag-queen like. Also the fact that she is a female pop star AUTOMATICALLY makes any guy singing her song gay. It's just how society is. And some straight guys probably just don't want anyone thinking that they're gay by mistake. Or they're just shy.

Look, if a guy went up singing Britney Spears 'Hit Me Baby One More Time' in a serious manner, we wouldn't think he's the straightest tool in the box would we?

Well, she does make videos that look like this

    Alejandro-lady-gaga.jpg

But details like this aside, her music is fun, there really should be no shame enjoying her stuff at a friggin' bar.

They didn't want to appear feminine in front of the women - a natural straight male behavior. maybe somewhat insecure.
