Sorry, I dont know how to get this YouTube video into a message. I sure hope if I ran into this I would do the right thing and calmly tell the bakery clerk why he is wrong.

OMFG WHAT?!?!? This is REALLY fucked up!!! I wouldn't fucking discriminate against a Muslim unprovoked. This actually got me emotional. Although I hate Muslim extremists, all (let me repeat ALL) of my encounters with Muslim women in person in America have been positive.

The second half is way better. I wouldn't know honestly if I would have the courage to speak out but now that I see this expirement I think I could find it somewhere. What I find more astounding is ppl support this bigotry.

I wonder what the though process behind supporting ignorance.

"What Would You Do?" is a very interesting show. Here is an episode about gay parents being refused service in a restaurant...

...and one about a gay couple in a bar:

Awesome video. I'm glad I kept watching to see the people who stood up for her, otherwise I would have just been really pissed off at the world. Still sad though how some of those people acted. Really, really sad... icon_sad.gif

In a lot of states, businesses can refuse service to anyone, for any reason. That bit makes it complicated. I've never run into a situation as out in the open as THAT. But I've stepped in between strangers before.

Once these two guys were arguing in front of my work. I think it was a road rage thing.. Everyone was just standing there gawking at these guys who were starting to get violent. I just walked up, asked them what the problem was. When they started finger pointing, I simply told them if it was that big a deal they could wait for the police. If they didn't want to deal with the cops then they could shut the hell up, get in their cars and leave.

All of these videos really piss me off.

Has the world not learned anything from centuries of slavery and Jim Crow laws in the United States? Has the world not learned anything from the extermination of million of Jew and other "undesirables" during the Holocaust? Has the world not learned anything from our sad history of man's multitudinous inhumanities to man?

When are the people of the world going to learn not to hate people who are not exactly like them? When are the people of the world going to learn that no matter what our differences are we are all just individuals struggling to make our way in this world? When are the people of the world going to learn that we are all much more alike than we are different. When are the people of the world going to learn to love one another?

What is it going to take before we allow homosexuals to enjoy the privilege of legal marriage? What is it going to take before we allow Muslims to build a place of worship in lower Manhattan? What is it going to take before we all start treating one another with love rather than hatred?

Sometimes this world makes me very, very sad.

Meh. They mostly tried to show the negative. I bet watching all of the footage would have shown better actions by people.

People are going to think what they think when you get right down to it.

In most cases, there really is only the thin layer of civility that keeps various prejudices, biases, and bigotry from bubbling up.

Deep down, we humans are very tribal; if you believe that we are closely related to chimpanzees, you can see what happens often when two rival groups of chimps meet... usually, there is much bloodshed.

It is good to see that civility can prevail, even if it is not a perfect solution.
