Why isn't prostitution legalized in the U.S.?

This is annoying. I mean, if I had money I would certainly buy hookers all the time! I don't want to have to deal with some gay dude's peculiarities in temperament. I'd rather pay a few hundred bucks to have sex with the hottest guy and then be satisfied.

There is no logical reason why prostitution should be illegal. icon_evil.gif

Not sure about the US, but here in Britain prostitution per se is perfectly lawful. There are, however, several activities surrounding prostitution that are unlawful. These include, soliciting in public, pimping, kerb crawling and keeping a brothel. It seems sensible not to criminalise prostitutes themsleves, but to create laws that prevent them being coerced into prostitution by others. Are you thinking of going into business, Jake? icon_wink.gif

Much of downtown Omaha was riddled with houses in the early 20th Century. In fact, many of the madams were quite philanthropic, which means most of this city was developed on the backs of the whores in those houses....literally!

There is no legitimate reason protitution is illegal. In all honesty, if it were legalized the profession could be regulated and taxed. People hire prostitutes even though it is illegal so why not throw out these ridiculous moralizing and make it legal.

    sanctimony.

Logic has little to do with the law making process.

It would be a great source for taxation and a way to check STDs.
Legalizing it is just too sensible, that's probably why it isn't.

...we are talking about a country whose culture shuns topless bathing, sees the human form as embarassing and private rather than normal and beautiful, and a country whose government still can't seem to decriminalize soft drugs even though they are no more harmful than cigarettes or alcohol. Is it really a surprise that prostitution isn't legal in a country where the culture is characterized by pervasive prudishness? The idea of tax and regulate maaaay be too logical to grasp.

Of course if it were legal, we'd have to have schools in instruction...

A girl in my class actually wrote a paper about this back in high school and everyone laughed at her because well.....it could be her future career, but she made perfect sense and no one could think of a way to disagree with her.

Paying a hot guy for sex once a month is much less expensive than supporting a hot guy who has expensive taste, no job, and only puts out once a month.

Because the majority thinks it should be illegal and there's no constitutional right to prostitution. You ready to lobby your state to legalize? It worked with marijuana.

Puts out once a month?? I would say divorce, but in the Caribbean we hae better solutions: "by-sides" (mistr-esses, ahem, whats the male term for a mistress??)

Hmmm, doesnt quite cover it... a 'by-side" is usually a regular bed partner, and definitely not a manwhore... The person who is married can equally be the by-side to someone else who is married... which is not really seen as "whorishness" in island culture, which is not monogamous, but its a far cry from being considered "sleeping around".. the status of a by-side here is more like a "second wife" in polygamous cultures

Does that mean that in a gay marriage, the by-side sleeps in the middle? icon_biggrin.gif

Prostitution remains illegal in the US probably because of all these narrow-minded, bible thumping screwballs in the conservative right wing. I say decriminalize prostitution both straight and gay. Tax it and regulate it. This could be an excellent revenue stream for cash strapped state governments especially California and New York who both need every nickel and penny possible to help balance their budgets. After all isn't America supposed to be a free country.

Yes, it is illegal....and it is ridiculous. The government should require regular testing for them and just make it illegal for adults with serious sexually transmitted diseases.

But if that is what you want, it is not difficult to find them on web sites and even some gay publications. Just ask some of those 'straight' republicans that like to hang out at the airport bathrooms....

Everyone who laughed at her is probably a prostitute now.

OHHHHHH SNAP! BUH DUN TSSSSS. Yes many women are still gold-diggers despite claiming they're less fortunate than men. Not all, but many. Especially here in LA where they beguile gullible straight men. But gay men do this too to other gay men.
