Gay Bowl X

Hey guys I had played in a gay flag football league in spring of 2010 in Atlanta where I had attended college and did pretty well (racked up defensive player of the league and my team's mvp) even though I missed the last 3 games due to school letting out and me having to go back home.

Anywho I was selected to play in gay bowl X in Phoenix, which I had declined because I wouldnt be able to attend the mandatory practices in Atlanta because I'm transferring to a school in Columbus, OH. The captain of the team recently told me they'd waive the practices so I could play.

My predicament is if I play in the tournament I will have to miss like 3 days of class at my new school, but I feel like if I dont go and play I'll miss a great opportunity. Tell me Realjockers what would you do?

Personally, and this may not be the right choice for you, I'd go with school. There will be another season of football, but the education only comes by once.

We're talking OSU, it's not like these are real classes. (:
(Said the man from "that school up north.")

You could always go late and leave early so as not to miss class, a compromise of sorts.

Or if you decide not to go, make it up to yourself by starting a gay team in Columbus!
(There's now one in Cleveland and also in neighboring Pittsburgh, as well as in Michigan.)

Start a team in Columbus Haha I doubt I'd have the time to do that and lack of connections in Columbus

Well then how can I respectfully decline after they've gone through all this trouble bending rules so I could play?

Will it be the first three days of class? If not, that could give you the opportunity to get your syllubus and keep up with the work your missing. Also you can give your proffs a heads up, so they know your not just slacking off but are actually participating in an event you earned a place at.

Well, I do not have an unbiased opinion, but I am flying to Phoenix Thursday night and flying out Sunday night on the redeye at 11:50 p.m. because I have to work. If you do that, you should only miss one day of class (Friday).

It's really up to you. Football is a lot of fun, but school will benefit you for the rest of your life. If one day is more tolerable, go that route. The games are all played Fri, Sat and Sun.

Regarding Columbus, there is a large community from what I understand and lots of athletes. I wouldn't be surprised if you easily got together an intramural team or something to compete with the straight guys (and whip them!).

Hope to see you in Phoenix! We miss you in Atlanta! Whatever you decide, we will take it in stride. We all understand that responsibility comes first, so don't worry about hurting anyone's feelings.

P.S. I would push it if you were playing on my team, but you will be on the other team if you can make it to Phoenix. ;)
