Our youngest just started school today. We went to drop her off at the bus station, but she started crying. So we drove to the school. She seemed better once we walked the halls there, but still seemed reluctant and closed off. I seriously debated bringing her back home. Once we got to the car, my eyes started tearing up. There was something in them, OK?
She was pretty excited when she came home. I'm wondering what will happen tomorrow.

Do you have any stories about being way back in kindergarten?

My mom walked me to the classroom door where the teacher Mrs. Munson, with her sleeveless mod dress and black beehive, greeted us. I thought she looked like cousin Serena from "Bewitched." Also Johnny, who offered me crayolas to eat (yuk!)

I walked to school with my older brother, but wouldnt go in. My father had to leave work and come throw me into the classroom. I landed in a wicker chair with a larger round back. I stayed in that chair the whole day.

I once slept the whole afternoon after laying down for nap time.

We had to swim naked at the Y.

I can.. kindergartin wasn't too bad really, but I had a mother who laid out the expectations and I knew where the school was, my older brother went there. I remember there wasn't a time I felt confused or worried. It was cool.

Interestingly, I remember a number of "first days". 4th grade was harder.
We have moved (from the Kindergartin location). My mother was ill at the time and I basically went in on the first day of school after getting off the bus, found whose room I was to be in and went there by myself. No parents and even my older brother was in a different building by that time.

In this day and age of "meet your teacher" (prior to school beginning) and knowing who you have as a teacher to help sooth those 1st day jitters, I still find it amazing I went through that.

i didn't do kindergarten, so first grade was my first start. i know that, because we lived in a rural area, all the kids who had gone to kindergarten knew each other and i was an outsider, but beyond that i really can't recall a thing about my first day of school. it wasn't that eventful or formative, i guess.

You brave kid! Cate's school doesn't do the "meet your teacher." I wonder why.

I do remember my first day of class, I was four years old. I remember that morning I was not able to finish watching Carebears. My mother and I walked up one Avenue and I remember looking at this six story red brick building and wondering where are we going? Once we got into the school the halls seemed extremely wide, the lights very bright and the floors shiny. We turned a corner and there was a woman standing near one of the doorways along the right side of the hallway. My mother greeted her, told my Kindergarten teacher my name . The teacher greeted me and told me I could pick a box to put my stuff in. I waved goodbye to my mother and began to run inside. Just then my mother started crying, so I ran back and gave her a hug and kiss. I walked back in picked my cubby and sat at circular table

Ironically I can not remember my kindergarten teacher's name may have been Mrs. Hanover

How could he not like being bitten by you?

My dog followed me. After that, he had to be tied up when I was at kindergarden, or he'd show up there looking for me.

I cried for hours nonstop icon_cry.gif cuz my mom left me there. The teachers tried to calm me down. I have since learn to love school. icon_biggrin.gif
