OK, I searched the forum and was surprised I did not find anything on this topic. I suspect that I have contracted the dreaded disease at the gym. Anyone have any recommendations on medications to purchase before I head to the drug store?

    I've had success with Lotrimin.

Wearing shower shoes/flip-flops is a good idea if you don't already. Also, a bit of Gold Bond foot powder helps me I've found.

Thanks Timber, I do wear flip-flops, but recall a day last week that I forgot and just walked into the shower, not sure if that was it but don't like this. I'll try both items. Thanks man.

When I was a young soldier, we trained in the swamps of South Georgia and we all caught a serious almost full body fungus infection. The Doctor gave us Tinactin cream which was prescription medicine then. It just didn't work.
I was going home on leave and didn't want to bring that home with me so one night I fixed it. I took a hot shower, then used a hot wet wash cloth to rough up the skin on the affected areas, then I applied rubbing alcohol to it and it cleared right up. It hurt like blazes though.

I have tried all those creams, some works alright, others don't. But here's one that I think put the total stop to the athlete's foot.

Iodine - dilute 1 Ts to 1 gallon of water. and rinse your feet twice a day. don't wash it off after. At the time I use Lotrimin for weeks, it would go away and came back again. Later i use Iodine wash and it never came back.

What concentration iodine solution are you diluting 1 Ts to a gallon of water (e.g. Providone-Iodine 10%)?

I wasn't aware of this iodine-based approach. What worked for me was 1% clortrimazole cream. As I recall it was a little less than $10 for a 1 oz. tube at a drug store, and a few $ less at Costco. However, the local 99-cent store has the same (concentration) cream (1%) for--you guessed it--$0.99. And that's for 1.5 oz tube rather than 1 oz. It's sold under the "Pro-Ex" Antifungal Cream label.

I use Iodophor at 12.5 ppm. you can usually find it in wine brewing equipment store.
