Has anyone seen the DVD or listened to the CD of Leonard Cohen's concert in London? I know that it is dated but I was just introduced to it. I had seen kdlang in concert in SF in May and really like her music and then learned that she sang his "poetry." His music is great and his poetry, although disjointed at times, is good. I especially care for the way he treated the musicians with whom he sang/talked his poetry. I especially liked the guy who "sang" through the wood instruments and the guy who played so well with wood and strings. AH music to my ears even if the poety was bad--I could relate.

I have seen the recoding of his performance in London, as well as seeing him here in Minneapolis. Stellar performances!!! This coming coming from a self-proclaimed punk. He's absolutely incredible.

I have not seen it but it does have excellent reviews. I was able to catch a reading he was doing a couple of years ago in Toronto with Philip Glass. He is awesome!!!!!

    Absolute favorite Leonard Cohen cover:

I want Johnette Napolitano to sing me to sleep every night.

But no, I haven't seen the DVD. I've only caught clips on Youtube.

One of the best, and funnest, lyricists ("And the sun pours down like honey on our lady of the harbour, and she shows you where to look among the garbage and the flowers"). Who else would rhyme "hallelujah" with "do ya", "knew ya", "overthrew ya"?

    My favourite Cohen cover:

    Gosh guys

For those who have seen him up front and personal-how lucky!

I did not know that he had been in MPLS ... but that may have been before I knew him--actually kdlang and a friend introduced me to him--and the musicians who accompany him are equally as great.

I think kdlang does an excellent job with his Hallelujah--and she does make the rhyme with "do ya" ...

I want to fine the wood wind fellow who accompanied him in London--this guy rocks!

Thanks for sharing your thoughts--I will look to more of his CDs ..

    Thanks again.

I first discovered Leonard Cohen through his novel "Beautiful Losers." One of the very first shows I did was entirely the poetry of Leonard Cohen and Margaret Atwood.

    "Closing Time" and "Democracy" rule

My favourite covers of his songs are those by his former backup singer, Jennifer Warnes.

She had a big hit in Europe with "First We Take Manhattan."

Oddly, one song that i seem to find myself humming a LOT is The Partisan."

(that's really going back - right to Marianne - the music of my first kiss. (with a girl).
