Recently had the privilege to sign up a client who I have sought to do business for the last 6 years. Gay acquaintance, but we graduated from the same university and he's even a fraternity brother (about 3 years after me).
He's married to his partner and was a little uncertain about how to describe the relationship between he and his partner.

I told him to put down "partner" or "spouse".

"But the state of Kansas doesn't recognize gay marriage at this time"

"Who cares", was my response, "this doesn't have to do with Kansas, its a note on an application for financial business".

Later I was called for clarification by the vendor/company "This man is the spouse"?, I was asked...
"Abolutely" was my response. It really is amazing how good it felt and I certainly dont' give a shit what the associate at the other end of the phone thought. All I got was a "thanks, I wasn't sure".

Certainly very pleased to have this new client... great guy

I see that in the real world you are as good to people and give the same good advice like you do here on RJ. Little things like how you identify yourself and your relationships in everyday life can be just as effective as attending pride marches, working for candidates, and other political activism. It shows people we all live in the same world and ours lives are actually very similar.
