Hey guys. I have recently taken on rock climbing. We have some good pits and repelling here around home, but I would like to make a weekend trip some where different and new. Any suggestions?

As far as gear goes, I have both climbing gear (rope walker) and all the descending gear necessary. I am pretty well skilled but still consider myself a noob with lots to learn. So a guided tour would probably be best.

    Thoughts? Discuss.

    Thanks-

Travel??? Mate, people from all around North America MOVE to Chatt for the climbing there, some of it right outside of town! Hell, I'm of half a mind to mover there myself. Head down to your local climbing gym and hit up some locals for info and pick up the Dixie Cragger's Atlas for Tennessee and for Georgia/Alabama.

    See you at T-Wall!

I don't know about rock climbing around Chattanooga, so I did a little google and came up with this web site that seems helpful:

    http://www.southeastclimbing.com/climbing_areas/tennessee/gen_tennessee.htm

I second BoulderingBum's advice to go to your local climbing gym. You'll meet experienced climbers who can give you info and maybe even take you out on trips. Rock climbers are a friendly bunch.

You'll have better luck finding fellow rockjocks on http://www.facebook.com/groups/13433344179

Watch their wall postings and invites for trips around the country and budget you travel funds, and keep some spare vacation days handy for their posts. They often do the gunks NY, New River Gorge WV, Red River Gorge KY, Red Rocks Canyon, NV. Make sure to come to the annual 4 day "convention" in New River Gorge with them every July to get invited to more trips. We had 120 people last year, from all the groups.

Make sure to join the new york group called CRUX, search facebook for them. They boulder in central park and meet in the Brooklyn Gym.

Also, join the other cities' pages like our DC group http://www.facebook.com/rainbowclimbingDC we climb local areas like Shenandoah National Park, Great falls and Carderock state park to name a few.
