Folder list - Please comment in thread if you recommend changes. US is first because of number of RJ members, then Canada, etc.

The intent is for the folders to represent a geographic area with a sufficient number of RJ members to provide reasonable activity for a given folder.

RJ mod is open to this and has asked that we make a specific suggestion.

I participate in a sports car forum that has a complex forum structure including region-specific sections. It works out very well, enabling you to interact with folks in your area. It also leads to various rides and get togethers.

I think something like this would be great for RJ, and made the suggestion a while back to the powers that be. The response back was positive, indicating there are a number of projects and limited time.

On RJ you can search and find guys in your area, but interacting with them in forums is hit-and-miss because of the many forum sections. In the absence of specific sections, another possibility might be region-specific threads. You see a little of that in the Travel section, but it is really not a place that locals hang out.

I think for this community, get togethers would be an excellent way to meet other members in a way that is low-key without the kind of issues that you might have with direct 1 on 1 contact via messages.

Interested in opinions on this or other ideas.

I think it would be pretty easy for RJ to set up an additional branch. From the sports car forum, this is how it is set up. I think for RJ, Northeast would need to be broken up into maybe 3 sections - New England, NY/NJ, and Mid-Atlantic, Canada would need separate sections, along with Europe, Australia/Oceania, Other Asia.

    Northeast
(Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Martyrdom, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia)

    Southeast

    Great Lakes
(Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Missouri, Minnesota, Ohio, Wisconsin)

    Northern California

    Southern California

    Pacific Northwest
    (Idaho, Oregon, Washington, Hawaii, Alaska)

    Southwest
(Arizona, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas, Nevada)

    Mountain - Prairie
(Colorado, Kansas, Montana, North Dakota, Nebraska, South Dakota, Utah, Wyoming)

    Canada

    Other Countries

This sounds like a good idea. Being from Arizona though, we have more in common with Southern California than with New Mexico or Texas. One of the challenges in breaking up by geographic area is that different people won't think that a certain regional area is appropriate for where they live.

For example, is Miami really part of the Southeast?

Good point evant3e - I just put this up as a strawman to help get some comments. It works for the sports car forum, but would need to be adjusted. The guys in each area would be best to weigh in on how best to do it.

On the auto forum, was part of Southeast. Maybe here should be part of a Mid-Atlantic.

Maybe this needs a bit more visibility. Would be surprised if there is close to zero interest.

I like how Canada is just one category. It's kind of a big place, you know? We are bigger than you (you as in the US), and we are on top, don't you forget~!

I think you guys are on top in at least 3 ways: geographically, economically, and ratio of great guys to the RJ population (sometimes think you guys are so great you really must be aliens from a spaceship that landed in Hudson Bay) icon_biggrin.gif

This list was from a sports car forum where it did make sense based on the distribution of the particular car. I did mention above that Canada would need separate sections. Maybe Toronto would need separate sections as well. Maybe Danforth and Don Valley would divide you into 4 sections. Would that be enough? icon_biggrin.gif

Sounds like a really good idea. I would encourage RJ folks to back such get togethers by participation and posting pics from the get togethers here on the site.

No need for peparate sections. Just a single Meet-up section and the thread titles can specify locations.

I think it would really need region-specific input. For example if most of the guys in Connecticut were in the SW part of the state, they might prefer to be with NY and NJ instead of New England. And the guys in S Jersey might prefer to be in the same group with Philly, so even a smaller state like NJ could be divided maybe using area codes. Any one dividing scheme probably won't work for everyone. Some on border areas might have to participate in 2 separate sections, but the goal would be to minimize this.

My thought is if there is enough interest shown by participation in the thread, we can go to RJ and see if it could be done. If they agree, without making it too complicated, maybe for each general area someone could volunteer to start a thread and get input and come up with the breakdown for that area.

I would love this and have I've tried this a few times in the past...the turn-outs were...being charitable ...non-existent! You get interest on line and then as the date comes up, so do the excuses and the no-shows...

Guys in Ohio, from my experience, are either too busy, flaky or uninterested to participate or are so fragmented that they have a special clique already arranged.....not "hate'n or dis'n anyone just sayin'....that's been my experience...
would love to give i another try Though! icon_cool.gif

Maybe meet-ups without getting to know each other to some degree might be part of the reason for very limited participation. Having a forum structure could facilitate this.

On the sports car forum, the pictures are generally put in the thread associated with the get together or ride. We would probably just need a bit of discipline to not quote the picture messages repeatedly.

    Guys,

If you agree this is a good idea, would you just do a simple reply, Agree or +1 or something similar, along with a comment if you want.

That will help indicate if there is much interest in this as well as keeping the thread from being continually buried.

I would like to help with a southeast get-together as well. Maybe this could be held in Florida.......

The idea posted earlier today regarding a nationwide meeting sounds fantastic in theory, however, it would take months of dedicated planning. This method may work the best.
