    Hey Guys –

Coming at ya from the Mykonos airport heading to Athens where I have a 5 hour layover before heading back to the USA. Thought I would pass the time by posting some pics from my Post-cruise vacation in my new favorite place on the planet – MYKONOS.

    MykonosPostAtlantisCruise.jpg

First off, there IS a God – and he most surely is Greek. Holy Crap! I have never EVER seen so many beautiful men (and women) in one place in my entire life. Besides the people, Mykonos is the most incredibly beautiful, charming, truly enchanting place I have ever been. My 5 days here were simply a slice of heaven. This place is nothing short of a gay man’s paradise. I just got a taste of it when the Atlantis cruise stopped here, and I am so glad that I had planned to come back after the cruise. It was the perfect end of the most memorable vacation of my life – one that I will never forget.

Here’s a view as we approach the island…

    mykonosFromPlane.jpg

Arriving back in Mykonos after the cruise, I was pleasantly surprised to leave baggage claim with my mountain of luggage to find a driver holding a placard with my name on it. This was a perk that my hotel offered that I wasn’t even aware of – Cool – I like it here already. Ten minutes later I arrived at The Elysium Hotel – my home for the final 5 days of my vacation…

    outsidehotel.jpg

I was very happy with my small but nicely decorated room…

    hotelroom.jpg

And you can’t beat the view from my patio…

    viewfromroom.jpg

    windmills.jpg

    baywithship.jpg

It’s a gay-owned hotel that the owners like to refer to as “Str8-Friendly”. I felt comfortable as soon as I walked in the lobby…

What I didn’t know is that THE place in town for “Gay Mykonos” to watch the sunset and kick off the evening every night is at 7:30pm at The Elysium Pool deck’s “Sunset Bar”. A few steps from my room and I’m at the party. How conveeeeenient!

    sunsetbar.jpg

With the Xlsior Gay Music Festival going on, and the week chock full of events surrounding it, this was already looking like an excellent segue-way after the cruise…

    gayguides.jpg

The hotel provided free breakfast every morning until 11am, served from this patio…

    With views like this…

The weather in Mykonos this time of year is much like that of where I live in Phoenix, Arizona – hot and dry. The difference is that there seems to be a constant wind, which is actually quite nice because it keeps things cooled down a bit. Still, the temperature is probably somewhere around 95 to 100 degrees, but the strong balmy breeze makes it bearable, almost pleasant.

Once settled in the hotel, I decided to walk down the hill into the shopping area and explore on my own. I fell in love with Mykonos almost immediately…

    houses1.jpg

You won’t find an SUV anywhere, in fact almost all the cars are tiny Smart cars or small Fiats or Peugeots, but most people either walk or buzz around on mopeds or ATVs….

    fruitstore.jpg

    guyoncycle.jpg

Walking through Mykonos, there are charming surprises around every corner. I’ve never seen a bigger selection of charming and inviting little colorful sidewalk cafes with great views and wonderful music coming from them…

As sunset approached, I headed back to the hotel to checkout my first “Sunset Bar” Party. The sunset didn’t disappoint, nor did any of the other sights.

The party included the token Drag Queen, one of the best I had ever seen, who served as a hostess of sorts for the entire week…

    DragQueen2.jpg

as well as two Go-Go dancers who would also be the staples at every party for the week. One was from Greece who I never got to meet…

and the other a blonde Adonis named Chris from Poland…

You will be seeing a lot more of them later icon_wink.gif

The views from The Elysium Pool “Sunset Bar” were breath-taking, setting the tone for the days (and nights) to come…

The next day is our first day at the beach, and I promise you won’t want to miss it

Oh Wow. This is bringing back so many memories. Mykonos is where I met my boyfriend. On the other side of the island on Agrari-beach.

and before you say “Oh No They Didn’t”, I want you to know they only look identical. Mine are Italian colors – white, green, and red – while he went for the American Red white & blue. Okay, maybe we did match icon_wink.gif

The next day was a day of shopping in Mykonos…and did I do some damage. I could spend a month here roaming the sidewalks and checking out the various restaurants and galleries.

Later in the evening – no one seems to eat dinner before 10pm in Greece by the way – we went out to a beautiful restaurant for dinner…

    ToddStephenDressed.jpg

and dined on my new favorite food – Grilled Calamari…

The next night is the BIG EVENT…The Closing Party for this music festival and, as luck would have it, it’s being held at my hotel.

Thanks for the pics! They took me on trip down memory lane from last summer.

I went to Mykonos with a grad student I worked with, cute, blond and a girl. Little did we know what we had stumbled upon our arrival in the dark at 9:30 p.m.

She was the first to comment on how many good looking men seem to be walking in pairs.icon_lol.gif

The island was quaint, lovely and could have stayed there forever. However, other areas did not spawn these Gods, rather many Buddha belly impersonations.

    Ahhhh........

Z, the answer is yes! I was there last week as well, definitely no Adonis here. I didn't see the illustrious CuriousJockAZ roaming around. Too bad, it would have been like seeing a celebrity icon_lol.gif

The Xlsior CLOSING PARTY was a spectracular and fitting way to end an amazing 5 days in Mykonos. I stopped in at the pool just before the party started at 10pm to checkout what the crews had been working on so hard to set up for two days…and it looked great…

    Pre-PartyPoolArea.jpg

The entry way was decorated with some sexy Greek art…

    crownofthorns.jpg

    art2.jpg

However, by midnight the party was in full swing, and the place was crawling with beautiful men. Not to mention the fact that those Greeks really know how to throw a party. As all the parties were, the three staple entertainers for the week were there – The Drag Queen who ran the show, and the Greek dancer and Chris the dancer from Poland. His army dance later on was a show-stopper (and, Yes, you will get as much of a peek as Photobucket will allow) I will say, these three were the hardest working trio in town all week, and they did a great job…

She came on and announced that they were going to have fashion show using men from the party, and that any guys who thought they had model potential should come to the end of the bar, and that 10 would be picked to model swimsuits from a local designer on the runway – the finalists would be picked by a panel of judges, and the winner picked by the audience. Yes, it’s cheesy…but it was fun to watch and the guys were so sexy…

And so ends an amazing vacation. I flew home Monday morning (11.5 hours from Athens to Atlanta, and another 3.5 to Phoenix) I had a great adventure but I am actually very glad to be home. I’ve already unpacked, showered and I’m off to bed to get some seriously needed sleep before waking up Tuesday morning and getting back to “Real Life”.

I went by myself in terms of having my own cabin and hotel room, but had friends from Phoenix and L.A. on the cruise, as well as in Mykonos later, so I never really felt alone. Regardless, I liked having the freedom to sort of do my own thing. I have gone with groups of friends on previous cruises, and that is fun too, but I like the freedom of traveling alone as well --- especially if friends are on the cruise anyway. You also meet tons of people on the cruise and make new friends along the way because most people are very friendly. I did not use a travel agency, I booked on my own via the Atlantis website:

    http://atlantisevents.com/

I didn't sign up for it at the end, but I will likely go on the cruise next summer which goes from Rome to Barcelona. I forget all the other stops (I believe Florence and Ibiza are a few) but it sounds amazing.

Zbm, yes, of course there are people of all shapes, sizes, colors, and looks on the island. However, admittedly, the ratio of hot men (and women) on Mykonos seemed higher than any place I have ever been. Definitely a feast for the eyes icon_lol.gif
