I just watched Brokeback Mountain again. Shit. Every time I watch it I cry. Then I realize I'm not Ennis and that Jake Gyllenhal isn't gay.

    God damnit...

I almost cried after watching Brokeback Mountain as well. But it was because I realized I'd just spent $8 on it, and that my friends and I wasted a nice drunken night on a bad movie.

Prison rape scenes make me sick. I saw this movie in Quebec in the summer. Some of the most sickening prison rape scenes I've seen. Me and my friend almost threw up in the theater.

But yeah. Think about Ennis's wife. When she sees him and Jack I don't know what to think.

I don't know why but that scene when they meet outside and start making out wildly and she sees them through the window makes me bust out laughing. People give me the stink eye when I tell them this.

lol, calm down kid. Not my fault the (lack of) commentary made me wish I'd drank more wine before seeing it. Overall, the movie just sucked major balls.

Does the movie have to be gay? If we're talking about good movies in general, I'd say Brokeback Mountain is pretty low on the scale.

If we're talking specifically gay movies, the few that I've seen and enjoyed were Latter Days, Monster, Get Real was okay, and there was one about some really butch mechanic chick that gets with a hot chick and robs the hot chick's lover. Saved was fun, though not specifically gay. I could sit through Broken Hearts Club again before I could Brokeback, and probably Jeffery as well.

As for non-gay movies that I could sit through just about any time, Fight Club, Natural Born Killers, Kill Bill series, American History X, Donnie Darko, Train Spotting, and many others would peak my interests before silent gay cowboys.

Thought I'd have to say, I'd rather watch BB Mountain before watching Eraserhead again, so I guess that's something.

Well to ea his own. Jeffery over BBM are you kidding. Of course a gay themed reference is necessary. I can name a million str8 movies that I love and would see again before watching BBM but as far as gay themed movies which are far few and in-between, BBM is pretty high on the list. Just out of curiosity what about the movie was a turn off?

Jake is gay, actually. The guy can't jeapordize his job as a high profile male lead by coming out. And if you question how I know this, realize that there is much more to Hollywood than most people are aware of. I very much trust and respect my "informant".

I have only seen Brokeback once and my heart literally ached for days. I hadn't come out yet and was afraid I never could. Thank goodness most people I have met are fine with it, though there have been instances of my needing to explain it from my point. The whole guys being attracted to guys is incredibly common and is only terribly tabboo today. Some great cultures of the past were partially based on homosexual relationships.

Lol THANK YOU! haha my nose is still running lol. I never cry in movies. The only other movie I remember crying in was a world war 2 movie called Max Manus about Nazi occupied Norway.

Brokeback is one of the best in my opinion, gay or straight. Not sure if it's a good thing but I personally felt like I lost something at the end. That and whenever I hear the soundtrack I can smell mountain air and pine needles as corny as that sounds.

Honestly, I hated the movie. But... not because it wasn't a good movie.
I am more like Vetteset, it hit way too close to home.
I thought the sex scenes could have been left out.
When scenes in a movie touch on the realities of your own life you have an entirely different outlook on the movie itself. My boyfriend loves this movie and has seen it many times.

Of all the movies listed, this is the one you choose to focus on?

Hillie said Of course a gay themed reference is necessary. I can name a million str8 movies that I love and would see again before watching BBM but as far as gay themed movies which are far few and in-between, BBM is pretty high on the list.

So you're saying, basically, that as long as we lower our standards for what makes a quality movie, BBM makes the list... Agreed.

Hillie saidJust out of curiosity what about the movie was a turn off?

    The script.

So, besides the movie being gay-oriented, and possibly being able to feel sorry for the characters because you can slightly relate to them in a small way, what about the movie was good? It couldn't have been the acting or the commentary.

As far as movies go, I'd say this one was right up there with Fast And The Furious. Great scenery, but the actors got the shaft when it came to the script.

I read the short story in school years before the movie came out and really enjoyed it. The author, Annie Proulx, lives in Wyoming... I've actually met her at a reading and she was a pretty chill little old lady lol.

I have straight friends who saw BBM and were as moved as I was; it's a "gay movie" but it's also about a guy who simply cannot express his feelings or get out of the hole he's in emotionally - and that sort of situation applies to anyone.

Yeah there are all sorts of emotions going on. The parents, the wives, the children and obviously the cowboys.

I don't know how you can possibly say the acting or the script was terrible. You can say you didn't like it but it's a pretty critically acclaimed movie- and not just for being gay.
