I just wanted to say a big "Mahalo!" to Chris, the RealJock, for protecting our privacy by removing the Facebook "Like" button from the site.

It was a great experiment, and I was encouraged to see so much interest and intelligent discourse around privacy and information security!

Kudos to Chris and the community!

What are your thoughts on information security, privacy, and social networking?

I'd much prefer a social networking site that practices an "deny all / allow by exception" policy for exposing information by default.

Facebook (FB) is something I keep pretty locked down (that is, until FB decides to open everyone's previously private-flagged stuff to the world whenever they get a wild hair in their nose to do so) icon_evil.gif

It sucks in that one really cant trust some of those sites to honour one's privacy.

I second that, Alan. It was a good example of this site functioning as a community, not merely as customers of an anonymous service. Although of course we are really guests here, and free ones at that, the ownership & control belonging elsewhere, but nevertheless I got the feeling of shared purpose.

And the response of the owners was quick and exactly what the majority of us were requesting, in that other thread where this issue was raised. A sign that RJ is a gay site worth sticking with, the best gay site to which I've ever belonged. icon_biggrin.gif

I would be interested in some sort of upgrade option that gives additional functionality and advanced control over privacy of my account.

We are guests here for free. And, other than advertising, Real Jock does not appear to have any other revenue streams. I would like to see the RealJock making some money to assure that the survival of this community continues. Mortgage companies, landlords, grocery stores, utilities, and such don't just generously support members of our community like the RealJock. They want cold hard cash to house Chris, feed him, bring "power, pipe, and ping" to where he is, and more.

What are the community's thoughts on paid upgrades to our Real Jock service in support of our virtual online community?

    Are you experiencing value here?

Oh I am surprised. He answered my email as if it was no problem to have the link. I guess he got enough emails.

Well, it's a mutually beneficial relationship. RJ wouldn't get any advertising if we weren't here.

I haven't noticed RJ being very responsive to suggestions from members lately. "Improvements" seem to be all to make this more of a sex site.

I wouldn't say that it's gotten to that level.. yet. But I do feel that the original theme of the site has diluted over time. It's not so much a fitness site anymore, but more like a generic dating/social networking site now.
