Well, I've been working out seriously for about 5-6 months now and was getting bored with my routine. So I decided to get into powerlifting, learning the lifts from one of the good trainers at my gym. I can't tell ya how much I love this stuff - I haven't enjoyed my workouts this much in a long time.

Weight is pretty low for now but since I've never done these before I know that I'll get some gains just by getting the technique down. I was still pretty happy with a deadlift of 285 and a clean and press of 145. I'm very patient but hopefully I can check back in a few months from now and give ya some bigger numbers.

Anyway, no questions yet, just wanted to share! icon_smile.gif

I'll post back up in a month or two, but I don't expect to put on a lot of muscle at the beginning. Don't get me wrong, I won't be complaining if I do - LOL - but I think its going to be alot of learning the proper techniques and trying to lift heavier at the beginning.

Long term I'm like everyone else and want to put on another 10-15 lbs. Ideally I'd like to be at 200 (I'm 6'3"), but this is a lifetime commitment thing, so I can be patient.

You'll want to study up on the types of hypertrophy. Likely, that research will cause you to reconsider your current plan.

I started powerlifting a year ago at 200lbs. Up to 225lbs now with similar bodyfat. You'll gain weight. Started with Westside but found it complicated. I like the simplicity of 5/3/1 and have already seen my bench go up 25lbs in about two months. I'm sure better execution of the lifts accounts for a portion of that as well.

Keep it up. It's a lotta fun. I like lifting for weight goals. A goal like "deadlift 500lbs" is much more concrete and motivating than "look pretty at a bar".
