So sad...Obviously we don't know many details yet but this is very sad news to have two young men taken away from the world in this way, even worse in the midst of a celebratory weekend.

Two men visiting Atlanta for Black Gay Pride are slain

    PROJECT Q ATLANTA
    September 6th, 2010

ATLANTA -- Two men that Atlanta police say were here for Black Gay Pride were shot in the head and killed in an apartment in southeast Atlanta late Sunday.

But few details have been released about the shooting deaths of Samuel Blizzard Jr., 21, of Spring Cove, Va., and 26-year-old Calvin Streater of Atlanta. A friend discovered the two men dead inside an apartment at the Station at Richmond Hill Apartments shortly before midnight, according to Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Atlanta police investigators say Blizzard and Streater were taking part in Black Pride activities over the long holiday weekend.

“It’s my understanding that both victims in this case were here for the Black Gay Pride festivities over the weekend. And, at this point we are questioning a number of their friends in an effort to retrace their steps,” said Maj. Keith Meadows of the Atlanta Police Department.

But the news outlets also report that Blizzard was a student at Georgia State University, while Streater lived in Atlanta. The outlets say that the Georgia Bureau of Investigation was called to the crime scene, though it was not clear why the state agency would be involved in the case.

The killings come 10 days after Durand Robinson, who co-owned the black gay nightclub and party promoters Traxx and sponsored several Black Pride events.

Someone's (or someones) trying to put a stop to this parade by spreading fear for personal safety..

Yeah this really upsets me because no matter what you think of Gay Pride or the need for a separate Black Gay Pride, there's NO REASON for this kind of senseless and fatal violence EVER. Even more so for these men really in the beginnings of their adult lives...

Even if this turns out to be unrelated to Pride weekend, it's still very tragic.

Perhaps a larger showing of gay people of all stripes next year will show whoever it is they failed. Their families and friends showing up will help too.

This is a horrible act of violence. It will be interesting to see if the act was based on sexuality or some other circumstance.

They weren't walking the streets when they were killed, so it hardly seems an indictment of the event or Atlanta. the deaths taking place in an apartment makes me think they knew their killer(s).

Just for the record, Calvin (26) had been a long time resident of Atlanta. He was well known within the ballroom community and liked by nearly everyone. An all-around nice guy. I didn't know him but got this info from another message board.

this stuff makes me sick to hear. it is so pointless and i dont get why people have to be so ignorant. this is the reason why i will say i take the offense when i feel uncomfortable. i wont give a stright guy a chance to beat me up of worse. i know two wrongs dont make a right but, but when u hear about stories like this it is hard not to be that way.

I heard about this on local news

ATLANTA -- Two people were found dead inside a local apartment complex late Sunday night.

Police said they found the victims inside the Station at Richmond Hill Apartments in southeast Atlanta just before midnight.

Atlanta police and Georgia Bureau of Investigation officials said they were called to the scene, where a friend had discovered two men shot in the head inside an apartment.

The Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office identified the victims as Samuel Blizzard Jr., 21, of Spring Cove, Va. Officials said Blizzard was a Georgia State University student. The other victim was identified as 26-year-old Calvin Streater, of Atlanta.

Police said they believe the victims knew their attacker because there was no sign of forced entry.

Officials said detectives were working off one particular lead that they hope will lead to the killer.

“It’s my understanding that both victims in this case were here for the Black Gay Pride festivities over the weekend. And, at this point we are questioning a number of their friends in an effort to retrace their steps,” said Maj. Keith Meadows of the Atlanta Police Department.

Maybe some-one was to bring a Jeff Dahmer home, and nothing more sinister than that; remember gays kill other gays too.

https://www.ushmm.org/wlc/en/article.php?ModuleId=10007392Martin Niemöller (1892–1984) was a prominent Protestant pastor who emerged as an outspoken public foe of Adolf Hitler and spent the last seven years of Nazi rule in concentration camps.

Niemöller is perhaps best remembered for the quotation:

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.
