I see the new Spam/TOS Violation link Chris had discussed is now appearing with every post, except those you write yourself. I also checked and found it's retroactive, meaning all past posts now have this feature, as well.

I haven't clicked it yet, to see if it takes you to a reporting page, or if it automatically records a complaint against that particular post without any further action being taken. And whether the member making the report is recorded. Let's hope it's used sparingly & fairly.

I know in email, it is unwanted email. But what is it on here?

Spam is when someone posts a blatant advertising of goods/services/websites. Ya know like.. porn sites, bootleg DVD's, viagra, cam sites, referral links, and so on. It's like email spam, but it's posted in the forums.

LOL. I see there's a timer feature too. But it's kinda flawed because you can't even edit your posts until you wait 30 seconds. icon_rolleyes.gif

Yep, I saw this right away when I misspelled a word and wanted to correct it.

I wonder if on a topic a member says everyone else on that topic is insane and delusional, if that's a TOS violation? icon_wink.gif

Glad to see the addition. I just hope every time somebody gets insulted or their feelings hurt, they don't click the "violation".

Maybe all "the guy above you" posts should be spammed

Well I do wonder, especially as newer members join, as they continually do, and don't know the history of all this. I can imagine the Moderators' lives being made a lot busier over this.

Little bitches. Need a good slapping. The system, as it settles, will probably want to be slanted towards more trusted users... there is probably some techy nerd way of doing that. But let´s try it and deal with problems if they happen. We don´t need to go hyper over this, it gives the trolls power when actually they are sad little people with small dicks.

TO CHRIS the REALJOCK: Perhaps a posted explanation of how the SPAM/TOS Violation "technical" button works in the enforcement of "administrative policy" (TOS) would help the community understand what this change means (and what it doesn't). In addition, any changes that may have been made to the TOS in regards to sanctions might be helpful to highlight and communicate.

TO THE COMMUNITY: I suggest taking a moment of your time to re-read the Terms of Service might help guide each person as to the the policy that is in place for our privilege of being welcome guests in the private, for-profit virtual online community. In addition, I would suggest that each member of the community consider these guidelines, and when in doubt err on the side of being considerate and courteous.

TO THOSE WHO CHOOSE TO PUSH THE BOUNDARIES OF THE TOS: Sadly, these persons may find themselves less welcome and possibly subject to any sanction that the private owners of Real Jock may levy, up to and including permanent ban from the site.

I am very interested to see how this new feature and any associated polices plays out over the following weeks.

Is it because I'm as thick as a brick or is it because I'm not an American...
    but please tell me...

What is TOS? And what does it do?

I dare not click on it in case I delete someone's post.

EDIT: The TOS bit is gone. Now it just says, "Report Spam"

    What's going on?

I dunno, perhaps refining stuff. TOS = Terms of Service, to which online members must agree to comply. Made famous by AOL.

RJ actually has Terms of Use. Not sure why a different term, perhaps because this site has always included free membership (and currently 100% free).

    http://www.realjock.com/tou/

I would presume RJ used "TOS" in the first iteration of this link because it's somewhat universal. Though if you didn't recognize it, perhaps not.

It refers to a violation of the Terms of Use by which RJ members must adhere online. Please take the link above and read them. You're supposed to already be aware of them as a user here, and are subject to them. Violations can get you booted, as the owners shall decide. That is common with online sites.

I too am confused as to the purpose of the link. Spam was not the problem that a requested reporting link was supposed to address.

CHRIS: Can you give us an update on what's in place and the consequences of the reporting action?
