Bubba, you have said in other threads that your on a limited income. If you have lived in your apartment for some time now, talk to the landlord about picking up the cost to have someone come in and clean the carpets.

    wtf

Would you go to a restaurant or hospital that appeared rank and foul?

I used to live in a nasty-ass student co-op for four years. There are four buildings total with about 20 rooms each. One of the buildings was closed off for a summer since no one was living there at all. I decided to move in to that building since it was cheapest. And I'd get credit for cleaning it.

When I moved in there were flies EVerywhere, dozens dead on all the window seals, rat poo on the counters, and something black and moist in the shower stall (I don't know what, I had another roommate deal with it.) Food in all the fridges, left behind.

    Humans are so nasty.

My ex best friend thinks that you can't get sick from uncleaned showers,
uncleaned carpets, uncleaned homes.I would never want him as a roommate.
I'm a big slob like he is.I'm just average home cleaner.I'm not a neat freak or
    a big sob at all.

I actually stopped being friends with someone over this type of thing. I first noticed it first time I went to he and his bf's apartment. there was this odd smell. then once i went over so we could go out to dinner. There bathroom was horrible mold mildew all over the shower, iv seen better looking toilets in gas stations cat food all over the kitchen floor. they never mopped or vacuumed or dusted. well they dusted the tv screen once it became so nasty they couldn't see the picture. speaking of cats those 2 cats had shredded the carpet all around the baseboards and those 2 cats shit and pissed everywhere except the litter box. After that I just met them at the restaurant or the movies. Then they moved into a house I thought okay they own a house they will respect it have pride in home ownership. I went over 1 time after that I distanced myself from them. that house was as nasty as the apartment they once had. They thought I was being over the top because I kept a really clean place and once cleaned homes for a living. I disagree I think most people know to clean their home weekly or bi weekly and not letting cats piss and shit all over the place

One of the reasons why I dumped my ex best friend as friend about 2 years
ago is because he is a big slob at home.He thinks that is selfish but I don't.
My relatives don't think that is selfish at all.

I first felt selfish but I just couldn't handle it any more. I was friends with him for 10 years. the last year it went beyond just a messy house. He let himself go as well never shaving not bathing. his bf broke up with him and told me he would go a week without bathing. We would go out to eat and he would fart in the restaurant. I said screw this

Are you sure they were gay men? This sounds like a lesbian household.

no meds no treatment until about 6 months ago. his bf got fed up and left him after 8 years together and he attempted suicide. he gained over 100lbs the last 2 years and hadn't worked a job in over 4 years. i think is bf was an enabler. He spent 2 weeks in a hospital when his ex left him. He made the mistake of being one of those who had no life of his own and made his bf his everything. His bf cheated on him the last few months together and he was so desperate to keep him he never mentioned to him that he knew. begging him not to go threatening suicide. then finally swallowing 300 pills months later

A dirty place can make you sick with the following:

    - mold spores, especially Black Mold
    - dust mites
    - bacteria that may cause infections, including staph
    - noxious smells that can cause headaches

I hate wall-to-wall carpeting, common in US apartments. It is unsanitary. Better are hardwood or tile floors, with area and throw rugs that can be cleaned or replaced as needed.

Wisconsin has a long, harsh winter. Newer places are sealed pretty tight against heat loss, meaning the indoor air doesn't get exchanged frequently. It's the air equivalent of a swimming pool without any filtration system. The air becomes stagnant and in some cases toxic.

You can try cracking a window, even if it increases heating costs. Running the bathroom exhaust fan periodically is another way to draw fresh air inside, and exhaust the stale. Most apartment kitchen range hoods don't exhaust the air, just recirculate it over a mesh filter.
