The Ill-prepared

The world is a sad place. It is a place where men (and women) sometimes cannabalize their fellow men and women because of their own lack of prepardness to face an uncertain world.

This group includes men who dropped out of high school because they were too busy chasing dick or pussy to focus on their task of obtaining an education; or they were too doped u from crack to see the need for an education; or they simply didn't give-a-damn expecint others to provide for them -- which they ensured by breaking in someone's home and steaking.

You all know the stories and there are many variations on what I have described above. There are masses of ill-prepared, illiterate and want to remain that way folks who become leaches on eevryone else either through theft, coersion of government power for handouts, or just simply rely on that noble art of panhandling.

The question is: Are you morally bound to provide for these people?

Would you use the collective power of government to provide from them?

I would not give the able-bodied, but lazy, any hand-outs. I would direct them to ways they could improve themselves and take care of themselves.

In emergency cases I would give them subsistence care. The US is not a place where people should die in the streets. But if they choose to be wards of the State, they should get just enough to survive, and no more.

On the other hand, the innocently disabled, and our disabled veterans, should be given a great deal of support. Something, ironically enough, the Republicans had underfunded, despite all their flag-waving rhetoric.

I'm a disabled veteran myself, so trust me, I saw how our benefits were slashed during the Bush years. Many VA hospitals closed, the Department starved for other Administration priorities. But hey, they wave an American flag real well, and all wear one on their lapel, so Republicans must care about vets. icon_rolleyes.gif

Yes, in the form of passing legislation to amend or create new laws, rules or simply reinforce propriety that reinforces education and proper nutrition.

I do not feel personal empathy or guilt for these people. However I believe that I still have a moral impersonal obligation to help them out. The true form of helping others takes place whether or not you want to help out.
