What would you do?

I was watching the news yesterday and it was about the wildfire in Colorado. The police were stopping people from going home and making them turn around. One lady was crying and said what about my pets. The officer said I am sorry but you have to turn around. It made me sick in my stomach. What if it was me and it was my dogs? I could not have turned around. I would have done anything to get to them even if it meant dying with them. It also made me think. Norm and I have made no arrangements for our dogs should something happen to us. My question also is for those of you that have pets, have you thought about what you would in the case of an emergency? Most shelters won't let you take your pets. I would never leave my dogs to fend for themselves. I love them, they are my babies.

We actually have a Humane Society shelter here in CO that recently had a nice giant building built from donated money. They are sheltering many animals at the moment from owners who cannot take them. They are accepting donations now for the abundance of pets that are living there. Hopefully they will be adopted soon and taken care of.

If you don't know anyone that can take your pet and give it the home it needs, at least let someone know about your pet so that they can be taken to a local shelter and get a chance at being adopted.

EDIT: I never answered your question...
I have a pet snake. I have a couple friends in the area, but none of them have a key to my place. If my family were notified, I know that they would rescue him, but I should probably let a friend or two know that I'd like him to go to the Humane Society in the event of my death.
