What do you like better and why?

Personally, I don't like hipsters/getting overly dressed up. I like to chill and not deal with excessive crowding (this might place me outside of nyc). I like great food and music. I like smaller buildings. I think this puts me half-way between the E and W village.

Haven't you heard that Jersey City is the new Boy's Town? Had dinner there the other day and didn't see a straight person all night.

wow thats news to me about jersey city! i've lived west vill and east vil (or e.vil, hence the name) and the main issue i had was tourists -- the west v is loaded with em, the ev is only lightly plagued. if i had to choose: chelsea, baby! icon_razz.gif

This is no contest. East Village.

East Village is vibrant, electric, diverse, anything goes, hilarity and fun on every street. When they say New York is the city that never sleeps, they're talking about the East Village.

West Village is... eh. Pretty tame, old, and low key.

Since my favorite bar, Rockbar, is in the WV, I'll have to say WV...but if I'm not there i'm usually out in the EV

You have champagne taste - halfway between the East and West Villages plants you around Lower Fifth Avenue, one of the priciest and most desirable neighborhoods in Manhattan. As for East versus West, it depends on what you like - I've lived in both. Though the nightlife is trendier in the East Village the architecture, ambiance, sophistication and proximity of the West Village resonates better with me - especially as a place to live. Simply put, for the young adventurous partying tourist the East Village is the better choice but when you factor in everything the West Village, whether gay ghetto or family refuge, is preferable.

Well, i tend to party more in the west because i live on the westside, but i love the east too, especially when i'm feeling like a bad boy...

I live in the East Village and do love it here, but sometimes the straight crowds partying on the weekends drive us nuts. It's easier to sleep now that Superdive has closed down.

I do like the fact that I know my neighbors and people who live in the neighborhood. I also like the gay bars around here, especially Phoenix.

Our place is small (367 sq. ft.), but my partner has really tricked it out. He's been here for 15 years and has made a lot of improvements. We've also worked on it together and are planning on redoing the kitchen.

I do like visiting the West Village from time to time, because it seems to be quieter and more relaxed. There's some beautiful places there.

If you make me choose, it will have to be the East Village.
    Why?

It is still very creative, while the West Village tends to have more baby strollers and soccer moms as of late.

Halfway between East and West Village puts you in NoHo or NYU territory. The area around Washington Square Park is nice but now is being taken over by tourists and NYU students.

For me I like both but if I had to choose it would be West Village. It's more relaxed and has a lot of beautiful townhomes, lots of nice quite little tree lined streets and then there's Pear Oyster Bar. One of the best seafood restaurants in NYC. Unfortunately to live anywhere around West Village you need to be making six figures to avoid paying more than half your income in rent. A lot of celebrities and wealthier residents have driven up prices there.

East Village is nice too and has a different vibe than W. Village. It's a bit younger, has a more grungy feel (I wouldn't classify it as a hipster area that's Willamsburg Brooklyn), lots of dive bars, etc... It can still be kind of dicey east of 1st Avenue though but it's a lot safer than it was back in the 80's.

You do indeed have Champagne tastes like me, you should also check out the Upper East Side.

I think I'm leaning toward the East Village now cause it's slightly less touristy and I hear it's definitely more of the vibe I want. Also, I would be able to get a much larger apartment for the same amount of money than in the west village.

Hit up Nowhere, Phoenix, Eastern Bloc, Urge, Woody's and of course the Cock. Needed a brake from the untz untz vibe of Chelsea. Then again, I Looooooooove the Eagle. icon_twisted.gif

hey you two... i saw you both at the gym bar that one time too.

You can come to the East Village too - we have lots of bridge and tunnel folks on the weekend...mostly straight and very annoying. I want the gay guys to come scare off the men and women who look like they're auditioning for "Jersey Shore."
