hurricane katrina 8/29, which, combined with the U. S. Corps of Engineer's shoddily built flood control levvies, flooded 80% of a major American city and murdered thousands of Americans?

a little bit of perspective here, please..... icon_idea.gif

One cannot compare such tragedies, particularly if one is looking for legitimate perspective.

(Also, thousands were murdered in the terror attacks in NYC on 9/11. Why do you write that those killed by the negligence of the Corps of Engineers were murdered? Was the shoddily built flood control a conspiracy with the intent of killing innocent people or just capitalism at its' worst?)

Does this site really want to go on banging its head on these pointless, contentious topics? Let's give these threads a rest for a while. Please don't respond.

the inadequately designed and built flood control levies that burst and flooded most of the city of New Orleans were/are built by the United States Corps of Engineers, a Unites States government federal agency.

when these faulty levies failed and flooded 80% of new orleans, just as many (if not more!) lives were lost than in the 911 terrorist attack.

NYC lost a couple of blocks of real estate, 80% of New Orleans was flooded and damaged/destroyed.

both events were man made disasters.

what would had been the reaction if 80% of New York CIty had been flooded/damaged/destroyed?

contrary to what many isolated, self absorbed eastern seaboard residents beieve; there IS life outside of New York City. NYC is NOT mecca...it only smells like it.

rnch, no one is trying to belittle the disasters that you experienced. I understand the feeling of abandonment and festering hurt you still feel. We all feel and felt, and empathize with you, then and now. I wasn't being "self absorbed" by my response. You wanted perspective and I believe I gave it to you in a very reasonable way. Facts are important, and some things are just not comparable. This is not a competition, but your post and reply makes it look like it is. There is enough empathy for everyone in the world. And yes, you people suffered one disaster after another- nature and human irresponsibility and negligence. The American people will not forget. (Who knows what the government will do monetarily though.)

The September 11th attacks were carried out by piece of shit human beings; they were done on purpose by somebody else.

Hurricane Katrina was a force of nature, there's really no way to control it.

You can argue the levies were poorly constructed, but it's also safe to assume there are bridges in San Francisco that will fall down in an earthquake, or that resorts in Hawaii will perish in a tsunami, or hurricane could take an oddly north path and cause a storm surge so large it will wash out Manhattan. Is the solution to build 200' concrete walls around our shores? Rebuild every piece of infrastructure to ensure its integrity in an earthquake? While that'd be nice, it simply is unrealistic.

Your analogy of the poor levies by the U.S. COE is akin to blaming NASA for poor space monitoring should an asteroid plummet into downtown L.A.

Don't get me wrong, the tragedies brought upon by nature are super devastating, but our knowledge of science is continually evolving and we learn each day what mother nature can do. Not to go all Darwin, but sometimes I think death by nature is just part of planet maintenance. In contrast, death by hateful cowards is plain wrong, and I'd love for us to round up every last one of the terrorists and publicly hang them...by their cocks.
