So i'm gonna go for a GAP year next year to work and play in the UK for 8-12 months.
I was wondering if anybody here knew the best place to go for a gay guy?

And I also heard that either Manchester or Brighton is a good alternative to london for a gay guy, is this true?

    hey buddy,

I spent a gap year in London between high school and university. It was amazing.

BUNAC http://www.bunac.org/uk/london/ operates a hostel in central London where you can meet lots of students doing work exchange programs. I ended up moving into an appartment with a few gay guys I met there and we had an amazing time.

I did BUNAC too. I also did most of my undergrad in LDN.
Brighton is a nice alternative to the London scene. People seem more laid back.
Also, Brighton Pride KICKS ASS! I wouldn't do London's; a waste of time and money. Allthough, SoHo Pride is kinda fun.
*sigh* I'm jealous, I wish I could sort out a visa -I would be back there in a heartbeat!

First off all the scenes in the UK are pretty small

Brighton is a more down to eart place than London and much much friendlier.

Manchester is just one very small street with a little overspill good for a visit but wouldnt want to stay there

    thanks for the BUNAC site

which would you say would be better to stay for a long time in, Brighton or London?

Also if i stay in a straightish place do you think I might get harssed or anything?

I'm only 18 and been out for a bit, so I'm not really used to any harassment from straight guys.

Well i was born in London so i would say there! But Manchester has a great gay life and might be a bit friendlier for you being 18! Also Edinburgh in Scotland is a great place for a student!

    Have fun!!
