I never told my grandparents, but Im pretty sure they already know, since ppl talk, and we dont hve secrets in the family... or even on an island...
(I never once dated a girl here, so go figure
My grandmother is old-fashioned in some ways, she told her daughter (my mother) not to get divorced as the church wouldnt allow that (she is very Catholic).... she smiles whenever one of my brothers talks about his girls, while she tells the girls to stay away form guys.. (the double-standard lol)
but she also tells the girls they "do not need to rely on or take care of men " and to be independent women and to get an education.. something she wasn't allowed, as a South american farmer family girl, education for girls was not considered important.. so in many ways she pushed us into modernity by going against her own upbringing...
Once we were driving and I was talking about a gay couple who live next door... my grandma responded with a very reassuring.. "its fine if people are gay" and I could tell from her tone of voice she was really just addressing me lol... I nodded in agreement and that was that, so unforced and indirect a way of addressing a "taboo" subject, so cultural lol :
Its not ideal, I hope someday we can all just be open about these things, but its a step forward for sure, for all of us
