If shopping at Ikea is gonna make me have sex with women, I'll stick with Wal-Mart or Target. icon_razz.gif

I'm glad most people found this weird. I did. They alienated gays, straights and by my last count...both genders and ones in between. I guess quirky anything goes was the theme????

Ikea has included every member of the LGBT community in their ads, except the Transsexuals I think. However I do not care the promotion of cheating.

it makes the whole community look like we're promiscuous.. it wouldn't be an issue if straight ppl didn't already think that of us. so it sort of backs up the stereotype.

I would be very curious to hear from anybody who lives in Germany (assuming that's where this was aired) about whether viewers there would be generally as offended as many of the posters on here are. I know only of the values of the US, and wonder if there is a different mindset in Germany that would make this seem less inappropriate.

It´s unlikely to attract the sort of sanctimony from Germans that americans deal in. The voice over says (approx) "Because Florian sometimes has big things to stow away, Ikea has the [something] solution"

(weil florian auchmal grosse sachen verstauen muss hat ikea die [pase?] Lösung)

That I agree IS a problem, when I told my straight friends I was gay, the first thing they would say to me is ... and you never date? YOur like the only non-promiscuous gay guy I know icon_sad.gif

nah, noone is really offended by that. Ikea is well known for being creative with their advertisement.

and it is not about portraying gays badly. Just an unsual twist within a 'funny' situation. Most of my str8 friends thought so at least.

weil florian auchmal grosse sachen verstauen muss, hat ikea die passende Lösung.

Translates roughly to: Because sometimes Florian has to stow away big things, IKEA has the adequate solution.

Seriously kids, where is your sense of humor? icon_rolleyes.gificon_rolleyes.gificon_rolleyes.gificon_rolleyes.gificon_rolleyes.gif
It's cute, witty, funny, something new and shows 2 guys having a tender moment at the end.

US-advertising still has light-years to go, to even show non-stereotypical gay people.

i think it's funny but also not that funny, and i think that all portrayals of gays to some extent are good, just for visibility's sake. i mean, there's no opportunity for character development in a 5-second add anyway, so any portrayal will be pretty one-sided. except for the super cute mcdonald's boy. icon_smile.gif so sweet.

Another commercial in Holland had a woman on vacation where she was romping with a tall dark hansome brown islander on a beach, next shot shes home with a husband (who is white) and two white kids and one brown one at the table

LOL, bastard children (children born out of wedlock), its just funny, in the past that would have been unacceptable
