Actually I know a gay adoptive father here in Florida, but he had to use subterfuge to make it happen. In other words, hide the fact he's gay.
And he's a super guy, a great Dad, and the kid's great, too, a minority child of elementary school age, who might not have otherwise been adopted.
His adoptive father already had an extremely good income, and was just promoted to a very senior executive position earlier this month. That young boy will have the best of everything in life, whereas before he had nothing but a state shelter.
Yet here in Florida the unadopted can't have what that kid has now, because gays & lesbians aren't considered to be fit parents. One of the legacies of Anita Bryant's anti-gay crusade here decades ago, that Republicans continue to defend. The official Republican Party position is that it's better for a child to languish in an orphanage than be raised in a gay home, such as this boy now enjoys.
And guys here challenge me on my very strong opposition to most things Republican. Well here is one of the reasons, among many others. When you defend Republicans, tell it to the unadopted children.
