    Hey all,

I'm going to be in Chicago next week (around the Streeterville area) for a course. Wondering if anyone can recommend a good gym closeby? Mostly looking for weights--don't need the machines or "cardio"

There are so many gyms in Chicago I would suggest just searching for gyms near where you are staying. Most gyms will have at least a decent selection of free-weights.

I'm just trying to save myself the trouble of a whole day's worth of looking at designer-type gyms full of mostly "cardio" equipment and zumba classes.

I am not aware of any gyms near the Streeterville area other than hotel gyms. Are you going to have transportation or are you walking mostly? Lakeshore Athletic Club Illinois Center (http://www.lsac.com/loc.php?l=ic), will probably be the closest with the most free weights but is is also a full gym with classes and machines as well. The company I work for (FFC,) www.ffc.com has two locations in the Gold Coast. One is on LaSalle, its called FFC Old Town, http://ffc.com/oldtown/. This location is great because they are more working out and less about classes like our other locations. Closer to where you will be staying there is the fitness center in the Ritz (The Carlton Club) and the Peninsula, however they do not have a large selection of free weights, mostly treadmills and machines.Hope this helps some.

I'm mostly walking. When I Googlemap searched, it seemed like LSAC would be the closest, but I've found that it's not always that accurate, and you can't really get a good feel for what's in the gym from a gym's website. I've never been to Chicago before, so navigating is going to be a bit of a rough ride at first.

Most of my time will be at the Gleacher Centre, and I think my hotel is just a few blocks away from that.
