"I tell them 'Look dude. If you don't say dumb shit, I won't out you. I catch you saying dumb shit, I am going to tell people about your business,'" says ESPN and CNN writer LZ Granderson.

That's pretty fucked up. I don't care what the situation is. "Outting" someone is messed up. You can let them know that you know they are gay. That's fine but to let everyone know their business is a pretty cheap tactic and very unmanly.

The way LZ Granderson says it he makes it sound like a threat and sorta like blackmail. Define "dumb shit"? That could range from someone actually saying something dumb or someone just not agreeing with your point of view. For all we know it could be arguing with someone way smarter then you with their facts straight and as a desperate act you try out them.

Gay, straight, bi, tri...whatever. It doesn't mater. Outting someone is just low no matter what.

So he has one rule--he reserves the right to blackmail someone according to his own discretion?

I've always thought Granderson might be gay...just a feeling. I am a big Yankees fan and I always enjoy hearing him talk baseball because of how smart he is...he definitely has a career after baseball working in television. These comments though are somewhat disturbing to say the least.

Jackpot! Closet cases are the first to intimidate / threaten to 'out' someone.

    Granderson is openly gay.

Here's a sampling of a past article he wrote:

I take it to mean, if you're gay, it's cool, but if you start saying negative or stupid things about gays, I'm going to out you.

You know, like the gay politicians who say stupid or negative things about gay people, and then have sex in airport bathrooms....with men? icon_biggrin.gif

Then the obvious response to this homophobic threat is to out HIM. That will shut him up fast enough, and hopefully get him out of sports reporting and the public eye.

Oi, guys. I think you miss the point entirely, he himself is gay, and often gay athletes reveal themselves to him, because they have no one else. As he says, both "scrubs and All-Stars". So as was stated earlier, I think his point is he is willing to out a hypocritical gay athlete. Y'all should really read this article before commenting negatively.

So, because he is gay, that gives him the authority to put someones business out in the open? Honestly, that just makes him a bitter fag; outing someone is simply childish. What good would that do for the reporter?

No not at all. However, if there is a gay athlete that is publicly anti gay, yes I do believe in that case he has the right to put that player on blast. It is the same in political situations, if you are going to be actively anti-gay and happen to be gay, the world should know of your latent hypocrisy.

If you knew and had proof Pat Robertson or even Tim Haraway was gay, would you out them?

Granderson says he would. That's all he is saying.

If you go to him for personal advice, he will keep the confidentiality. If you try and prove "you're not gay" by making anti-gay slurs, he'll respond.

It sounds like a decent policy.

No it's not fucked up under the right circumstances, which are:

    Republicans
    People opposing gay rights
    Assholes in general
    Athletes that say dumb shit
