I am think about getting an iPad for my mom for her 85th birthday. But I am afraid of her losing it by leaving it somewhere and just walking off and forgetting it. So is there a gadget that can be attached to such an item, so that if she gets a certain number of feet away from the iPad, it will beep and warn her?

How about you tie one end of a ribbon to the iPod and pin the other end of the ribbon to your mother's dress.

No seriously, no 85 year old woman needs an iPod.

How frickin old are you that your mother can be 85 years old? Oh sorry, never mind.

Hahaha nice one... but seriously.. an iPad or an iPod?

The other day I saw a guy at my local starbucks that was like 70 or 75 old, and he was playing with an iPad. I actually think these things might be good for old people, they're not as complicated as normal computers, and the screen can easily be magnified for the poor of sight.

If my grandma would be alive today I would most certainly buy her an iPad.

I've never quite understood young folks who make fun of old folks. We're all on the same road, wending our way down the same path. Why shouldn't an 85 year old woman have an iPad?

Anyway, Caslon, I'd suggest posting your question to a forum more specific to your needs in this case, like the Mac Forum:

And happy birthday to Mama Caslon!

Ditto that. I have so much respect for older people who are still active and take care of themselves. The father of one of my friends turned 80 this year. He and I both competed in a 5K this spring. His time was 21 minutes (and some seconds), considerably faster than most guys half his age, including me.

He's also very much in tune with the latest technology. He talks to me about downloading music, iPads, Android, and USB 3.0. The man is 80 years old and to hear him talk you'd think he never expects to die.

Some people seem think if you're over 70 you should be in a nursing home waiting to die.

My mom has 30 properties that she still manages herself. She has lost her appointment book a couple of times in her meandering between properties. So I know it will happen, and an iPad is just to damn expensive...and too damn tempting to be stolen if found...that I need to figure out a way to help prevent her losing it.

She loved the cellphone I gave her for her 80th birthday. That allowed her to be in communication when not at home. So I am sure an iPad will be the perfect complementary adjunct to it. (She can't use an iPhone. The screen is too small.)

One fellow on here has tipped me off to Apple's MobileMe. That sounds like a good idea, too. ....So when she buries the iPad under a pile of papers, she can find it ... icon_lol.gif

He didnt rankle me. But really, wasnt thst just a retarded answer. iPod instead of iPad and all the spelling mistakes. What a retard!

And he has the nerve to diss someone 4 times his age .... someone I might point out who can do a 3-minute plank! (She goes to a personal trainer twice a week and then works out on her own, too.)
