Wow she's amazing in the fact that she's so pro-active with gay rights.

Even better this video appears to be raw! Doesn't look edited at all, except when she tries to call the senator.

she is amazing...but as amazing as she is, there a lot of people in the community that think she is just exploiting the gays...IDK.
We all looked up to Madonna...you know you did, but Madonna never did anything this public for gay rights, or appeared at a fund raiser like HRC...etc. I mean, even J-Lo appeared at the White Party.
Course, Madge herself doesn't really talk about or advertise her charity work. Behind the scenes she donated quite a bit of money to AIDS organizations over the years. so...we cannot forget that. And I don't think Madonna wants to be recognized by just one group...she is a world Icon.
Lady Gaga is more of the underdog trying to take over the world...and succeeding. I love her!!

Great video!!! She is one in-touch woman. I just hope it is seen by the powers that be, that need to see it. I hope she isn't preaching to the choir.....

Very nice of her to do this. I just hope she's not trying to use gay people in order to further her career...

If this video does nothing else but get a bunch of her fans to call their Senators, it will have been worth the effort. I like how she represented herself here, and she was respectful while delivering her message. Good for Gaga!

As for the accusation that she is "using gay people to further her career" -- how much bigger does Gaga need to get? She's already on the map in a very big way, and she isn't going away anytime soon. Good for her for latching on to a cause and using her celebrity if she must to raise awareness and help force the repeal. The gays have played a huge part in Gaga's success, so if she wants to use her celebrity to give back in some way, I see it as a Win/Win.

That's not exactly what she's doing. She believes passionately in gay rights, equality, and she has many, many gay friends.

    This is a damned-if-you-do, damned-if-you-don't situation.

If she didn't voice her beliefs, she'd be one of those celebs who "didn't do anything for gay rights" --not that celebs necessarily HAVE to, anyway.

When she does, there are cynics who say she's just exploiting gays.

Self-absorbed, are we? How about letting the lady voice her beliefs?

    I think she's amazing.

I am so proud of my friend Josh who helped Lady Gaga over the phone with writing this speech. Josh works for SLDN and introduced the 4 discharged soldiers to her backstage at a concert. She was moved to tears by their stories and wanted to do something to help... A week later they were her dates for the VMA's. and now this video! I am so proud of him and all my other activist friends. ...and THANK YOU Lady Gaga!

I'm far from self absorbed. Funny you would call someone who questions her motives as being self absorbed when one could argue that it's Stefanie, herself, who is one of the most self absorbed entertainers on this planet.

Let me know when her political views make a difference. Until then, she's only out for herself. If the bitch put her money where her mouth is, then maybe I'd adopt a different pov.

And just the other day, Joe Biden declared the DADT repeal was being put into the Defense Bill, which means it has a great chance of being repealed. If Stefanie takes any credit for this, I'll scream!

Is it a bad thing though? We get recognition, and we get to still listen to her music... win/win.

I never even heard of Lady Ga Ga until I saw a video on Youtube entitled, "Teeth"
Can't get the beat out of my head. Then I started to listen to some of her other music, and as embarrassed as I am to say, I actually liked it. icon_redface.gif

HOWEVER...after seeing pictures of her wearing the flesh of slaughtered animals on her person, I am no longer a listener icon_exclaim.gif.
    She's a Gay advocate eh? icon_eek.gif
With the bloody lack of animal sympathy she showed by wearing their flesh as a dress, she is obviously not a person that I would want being an advocate for me. Really disappointed in her. icon_rolleyes.gif

    Jeeze,

She has been pretty tireless on the issue. She has sold a buttload more albums that can attributed to just gay fans and I haven't heard a secret recording of her laughing about using the fags for money.

She has not done one thing to indicate she is using gay people for anything, and in point of fact, is probably earning a whole lot of scorn and has lost fans over the issue.

Unless you know her personally, or even know of anyone that's met her, I don't think you have any basis to make those claims. One could also argue that bacon is the tastiest food ever created. Doesn't mean you SHOULD (or that anyone other than pork enthusiasts really cares).

I was prepared to dislike and disregard Gaga as another studio-produced, flash-in-the-pan disposable pop princess, but after watching her live performances and interviews, I've been consistently impressed with her style, presence, awareness, cognition, and raw talent.

I would only be surprised now if she doesn't overtake Madonna and become one of the most powerful influences in music and pop culture. Viva la Gaga. icon_wink.gif

Read the post to which I was responding, and you'll see why I positioned my reply that way. Everybody claims to know why entertainers do what they do when, in reality, nobody does. I'm telling you that the vast majority of entertainers pull stunts like these simply to build their brands. It's always about money. Sad, but true.

And I am no fan of Madonna, either, but Stefanie cannot hold a candle to Madonna...not until she has a couple more decades of accomplishments under her belt ( a belt that is likely to be made of bull scrotums or some crazy shit ). icon_rolleyes.gif

I didn't call you self-absorbed. It was a more general expression, toward the gay community on a grander scale. Some of us certainly are self-absorbed when we complain that celebrities aren't campaigning for our causes. When was the last time anyone chided Lady Gaga for not campaigning for raising funds to help flood-ravished Pakistan? or Louisiana? Or bring attention to AIDS in Africa?

It's great when stars take up worthwile causes, but they don't necessarily have to. That's all I meant.

I don't know you reppa, I certainly wouldn't make assumptions, or character calls on someone I don't know.

I'm sorry if it came off that way...it certainly wasn't my intention.

She is not self absorbed and only using the gays for her benefit. If this were the case... then at the VMA's she would have left the discharged soldiers after the show. Instead, she brought them to the after parties with her, STILL as her dates and hung out with them for the rest of the night and made it clear to everyone to treat them all with respect.

I think everyone can do what they can, and this is what she knows she can do to help. Not everyone knows that Don't Ask Don't Tell even exists. There were celebrities at the VMA's that didn't know about it at all. She is bringing it to people's attention. The day after the VMA's 700 dollars was donated by GaGas little monsters... most were 20 dollar donations from her fans. There is also this pretty cool video by these fans of hers that get a bunch of college guys to call their senators and urge them to end don't ask don't tell. You can see that they are at her website in the video...

agreed, if she didn't make this video you'd hear non-stop criticism from the same whiners on why she didn't make one considering her gay following. icon_rolleyes.gif

sxydrkhair saidGood to hear Lady Gaga speaks out! Now I am starting to like her better.

I like the aesthetics and cinematography of her videos, though I'm not the biggest fan of the songs themselves, and I'm certain she's developed the "I'm famous" complex already. But she seems to have ardor and tenacity for gay rights and she effectively can communicate through update modes of communication. YouTube is the biggest "look at me" website ever created, and she's doing a great job of taking advantage of that fo sho.

Weather or not she is trying to exploit people are not. You are doing the same thing in trying to get her to help the cause. So you are both exploiting each other as long as it is both known is all that matters.

BUT ... i honestly beleive she cares. If as society you cant not only take help when its offered your first idea is to woner what they want for there own good. its a sad day.

just take the help it takes alot of people to change people minds

DUDE...not only is your post saturated with grammatical errors and syntax errors (which I can grudgingly overlook), the flow and structure make absolutely no sense. No, neither Lady Ga Ga nor I are exploiting people. What the fuck? Are you like on your fifth drink of Vodka on the rocks? Or are you from13th century England, and magically travel to present day and haven't noticed the difference in the way English is used? You're from Canada for shit's sake you should know the fucking language by now! lol.

Sorry to be a doctrinaire but you sir need to burnish your Engrish.
