Is running the fastest way to loose weight, or is there a faster way to gain muscle besides going to gym??

In my experience, of all the various athletic activities I do, running is the one that makes me leaner and more defined. But for getting bigger, you'll have to do some type of resistance training, and lifting weights is the most effective way of doing that.

Cardio in general is needed for weight loss. Not specifically running, though I think it's the best option.

in 2008 i was overweight and had not jogged or ran for 30 years. i started jogging around the block for about 5 minutes few times a week and remember my ankles and heart where in agony when i first started. but i persisted and i now can run easy for about 30 mins at a time and love it!

If you doubt whether running helps lose weight, then show me an obese or overweight Olympic track athlete!
Having lost 70 lbs in the last year or so, I found that going out for a run very beneficial, but it takes some motivation. Therefore finding a running partner who is about the same level as me was a Godsend.
For me, running is balanced by visiting the gym, and particularly engaging with the elliptical cross-trainer, with the resistance set just above fat-burn level. With 50 minutes of stiff workout (including five minutes cool-down), I burn on average about 1,040 calories per session.
To be honest, I find the elliptical workout extremely tedious. Fortunately I have the gym to myself with no instructor or supervisor, but have the wall TV set to a music channel specialising in All-Time Greats (music of the 1960s- 1980s - befitting my generation). By enjoying the music makes the otherwise tedious workout a breeze.

When I decided to lose the fat and gain the muscle, I not only increased the intensity at the gym but also upped the amount of running outdoors. I now can run 7 miles easily and usually run around 30 miles weekly (usually shirtless, as noted in another thread).

I think the running is one reason that -- at the ripe old age of 100 -- I'm able to maintain a 30 inch waist and a 6-pack.

Take from this what you will. My story is but anecdotal, and my body might not be the result you seek.

Check the workout plans here or at www.BodyBuilding.com.

As others have said, work out 3x week and run 3x week and you will be a Greek god in no time.

    PS: Run shirtless

    not running, sprinting!

    try running 300m 4 minute break 300m 5 minute break then 250m....

you will be burning calories for hours after that workout is over... either that or if u run it properly ull puke...

anaerobic workouts create an awfull thing called lactic acid, but sure after that 12 minute workout you will know exactly what im talking about

The fastest way to lose weight is to recalibrate your scale's zero setting to a higher weight.

Running is a best maintane of loging weight and There are a few simple steps you can follow in order to keep your weight in check.
    Use the stairs more often.
Have bigger breakfasts, and smaller dinners.
    Replace Mountain Dew with water.
    Eat more fruit.
Eat brown bread in stead of white.
    Go for a walk.

I do intivals when I run, I've heard it's better for you but I don't really know.

    Usually I'll do:
    -5 min warm up walk
    -5 min jog
    -5 min run
    - jog
    - run
    - jog
    - run
    - walk to cool down

(the mins vary from 2-10 depending on my mood that day)
Is just running better than intivals?

    Hi,

I do interval training on my treadmill.
    7 min warm up

    1.5 min of sprinting
1.5 min of moderate walk to regain breath and prepare for the next sprint.
This cycle is repeated 7 times

Then abt 7 min of cool down.

Feels exhilarating once I have completed the routine.

    Regards.

The fastest way to lose weight is to die...or get blow'd up, like obliterated into millions of bits and pieces.
The BEST way to lose weight is slowly, so you body can adapt as you go along.
