Dan Savage has started a new project - he's using YouTube to get the word out to LGBT kids that life gets better after high school.

"If you're gay or lesbian, or bi or trans, and you've ever read about a kid like Billy Lucas and thought, "Fuck, I wish I could've told him that it gets better," this is your chance. We can't help Billy, but there are lots of other Billys out there—other despairing LGBT kids who are being bullied and harassed, kids who don't think they have a future—and we can help them..."

    Excellent video. Thanks for sharing!

Though the video is targeted towards younger gays, the message is true for anyone who is having a rough time dealing with their sexuality and finding their place in the community.

Things will get better if you give it time and live life to the fullest while you wait.

This is so inspirational, both to teens going through the BS of high school, and to those that have made it past and are searching for the relationship these two have. 14 years! That's amazing. I can only hope to share in something like that someday.

I'm a HUGE Dan Savage fan and this video is perfect for Dan's message. Terry is super hot too!

I'm trying to convince my husband to join me in recording a message.

Fantastic message, and it's true. Life goes get so much better after high school. Middle school was the hardest time for me, and compared to the harassment Terry described, I had it easy. People called me names, people wrote "fag" graffiti on my notebooks and things, but I was never physically harmed, and no one shat on my car. But seriously, the day after you leave high school, the world looks up. You can look forward to going to college, or getting a job and finding your place in the world.

I love Dan. A big thank you to him for opening up his personal life a little bit more for everyone to see. It's important to have visible gay people like him to show young gay kids how well-rounded and successful you can become if you work hard, and to show the bigoted assholes around the world that they can drop dead.

I've been beaten up, assaulted, spit on by the metro bus driver, and straight out insulted in by my own superiors at work... and now where was this message when i was growing up? Heck i had to deal with being called a Wetback. Chino, Beaner and or a Fag a the same time..I am so glad we have made progress in the way people think now days...

I watched that. It was a terrific message and he and his partner are a credit to humanity. I hope that someday I will contribute something that meaningful to the community.

    Great message.

It's so true. I think back to when I was growing up, and being bullied mercilessly from the age of 7 until I left the catholic school system, and wanting to die. Even as an adult it took me a long time to get over the anger I felt.

I had so wanted to go into my school reunion and go all Carrie, but after coming across photos of my former tormentors from school on facebook, gravity, weight and age took care of it for me.

What a great message. Life definitely does get better after High School. I was one of those people who were always picked on and did not like life much. After I got out of school and moved away with my family. things got much better. I love people and life so much now that I am older and wiser.

A So-Called Christian's Opinion of the It Gets Better Project

"The LOT Project* is a Phoenix Az. based ministry, serving the Gay, Lesbian, Bi-sexual and Transgender community. Perhaps the best way to describe the project is to explain it’s primary purposes.

First, we seek to provide sound, Biblical information to those who are caught up in Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Trans-gender sins."

This seems to be getting some attention, I'm watching CBC now and it's an item on the Mark Kelly show tonight.

Any American TV station paid any attention to this?
